You know what really struck me about The Boathouse Phuket – SHA Plus? It’s one of those places where you can tell someone actually thought about what travelers want, not just what looks good in photos. This four-star spot sits right on Kata Beach, and I mean literally right on it – you step out of the lobby and your toes are basically in the sand within thirty seconds.

The thing about Phuket is that so many hotels claim beachfront access, but they’re actually across a road or behind some other development. Not here. I watched the sunrise from my balcony with a proper cup of coffee (they have decent machines in the rooms, thank god), and honestly, it felt like having a private beach house for a few days. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “comfortable luxury” – not trying too hard to impress with marble everything, just well-designed spaces with those little touches that matter. Good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually work, and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing on your roof.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the beach situation. They’ve got their own section with proper loungers and umbrellas, but it doesn’t feel exclusive or stuffy – more like they just carved out a nice spot where you can actually relax without vendors approaching you every five minutes. The restaurant right on the beach is surprisingly good too, which isn’t always a given with hotel dining. I had some of the best green curry there, and the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting it right rather than just serving tourist-friendly versions of Thai food. The pool area is well-positioned – you get shade when you want it, but it’s not one of those cramped spaces wedged between buildings. Actually, the whole property feels more spacious than you’d expect, probably because they didn’t try to cram in as many rooms as possible.

Location-wise, you’re in Kata, which I think is the sweet spot on the island – busy enough to have good restaurants and shops within walking distance, but not the chaos of Patong. There’s a 7-Eleven about two minutes away (essential for late-night snacks and reasonable prices on water), and some excellent local places just up the hill if you want to venture beyond hotel food. The staff here really knows the area well – they gave me directions to this little family-run place that served incredible tom yum that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no drama with early arrival, and they actually seemed happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions. With a 9.3 rating, you’d expect things to run well, and they do, but without feeling overly formal about it.

  What can I say? This is the Boathouse, probably the best hotel on Kata Beach and our favourite place to stay in Phuket. The freshly prepared breakfasts and dinners overlooking the beach, great facilities, helpful staff, pool set up, sunset views and beach location all add to the charm and pleasure of staying here. And let's not forget the fabulous food and beverages with great dining area. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with large comfortable beds and a decent TV selection for rainy days.
