Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hotel COCO Phuket Bangtao Beach, I wasn’t expecting much from a four-star place in this part of Phuket. The Bangtao area can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The location is what really sold me on it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Bangtao Beach, which – let me tell you – is way less chaotic than Patong or Kata. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s not some hidden secret anymore, but you can actually find a decent spot on the sand without fighting crowds of tourists. The hotel sits back from the main Cherngtalay Road just enough that you don’t get the constant motorbike noise, but you’re still close enough to walk to those little local spots that serve amazing som tam for like 60 baht. There’s this one place – I think it’s called Krua Bangtao – that’s maybe five minutes on foot, and honestly, their green curry is better than anything I had at the fancy resorts down the coast.

What I really appreciated about COCO was how… well, unpretentious it feels. The lobby’s got this clean, modern vibe without trying too hard to be Instagram-perfect, and the staff actually seemed to remember my name after the first day (which, let’s face it, doesn’t always happen at these mid-range places). The rooms are solid – nothing revolutionary, but the AC works great, the shower has decent pressure, and the beds are actually comfortable. I stayed in one of their pool view rooms on the third floor, and you know what? Watching people float around with their Chang beers at sunset became my little daily ritual. The pool area gets pretty lively during happy hour, but it quiets down by 9 PM, so light sleepers don’t need to worry.

Here’s the thing though – and this is important – the breakfast buffet is… fine. Not amazing, not terrible, just fine. If you’re expecting some grand spread, you might be disappointed. But there’s a 7-Eleven right across the street, and honestly, grabbing fresh fruit from the morning market near Laguna (about a 10-minute walk) became part of my routine anyway. The hotel’s location puts you right in the sweet spot between the Laguna resort complex and the more local Bangtao village area, so you get the best of both worlds. You can grab expensive cocktails at one of those fancy beach clubs if you want, or you can eat incredible pad see ew at a plastic table for a fraction of the price. That flexibility is exactly why I’d come back to this place – it doesn’t force you into one type of Phuket experience.
