First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Destination39, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in Mission Height Village. The location feels refreshingly removed from the typical tourist chaos, yet you’re still in Thalang where everything you need is actually within reach. What struck me immediately was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests arrive, not just going through the motions you sometimes get at bigger chains.

The Location Sweet Spot

Here’s what I love about where Destination39 sits — you get that peaceful village vibe without being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Paklok isn’t the flashiest area, but that’s exactly why it works so well for couples (and honestly, the 8.6 rating from couples makes total sense once you’re there). You’re close enough to Phuket’s main attractions that nothing feels like a major expedition, but far enough away that you can actually hear yourself think. The free parking on-site is a godsend if you’re planning to rent a car and explore the island properly.

The Room Experience

My room was one of those pleasant surprises that makes you immediately relax your shoulders. Nothing overly fancy, but everything felt thoughtfully put together — good lighting, comfortable bedding, and a bathroom that actually had decent water pressure. The air conditioning worked like a dream, which you know matters when you’re dealing with Thailand’s humidity. I particularly appreciated the little balcony space where I could sit with my morning coffee and watch the village slowly wake up.

Dining and Daily Life

The on-site restaurant serves up solid Thai dishes alongside some international options, though I’d recommend venturing into the village for dinner at least once — there are some incredible local spots within walking distance that the front desk staff pointed me toward. Breakfast was consistently good, with fresh fruit that actually tasted like fruit and coffee strong enough to get you moving. The whole daily rhythm here feels unhurried, which is exactly what I needed after bouncing between Bangkok’s intensity and Phuket’s tourist zones.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel like a genuine retreat without any pretense. The 10-point rating from guests isn’t just about the amenities — it’s about how the whole experience comes together. You wake up to village sounds instead of traffic, the staff remembers your name by day two, and there’s this sense that you’re experiencing a slice of real Thailand rather than just another hotel stay. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about the quieter setting that lets you focus on each other instead of constantly planning the next activity. It’s the kind of place where you might actually use the word “relaxing” and mean it.

  Self contained studio up in the northerly part of Phuket, within a residential area called Mission Heights, away from tourist areas but easily accessible by car to any activities you partake in. Our hosts Dietmar & Noony communicated promptly to all of my enquires & offered suggestions on places to eat nearby. My husband did a month long triathlon training program at nearby Thanyapura & found it easy to cycle to & from the facilities. I was there for 12 days & hired a car. It was only a 15 minute drive over to NaiYang beach on the north west coast, 45 minutes to old Phuket town, 15 minutes to Ao Por Pier where I did a big boat outing with Amazing canoeing & 30 minutes to the Green elephant Sanctuary (which is a must do activity). If you’re looking for a shopping experience Phuket central is only a 35 to 45 minute drive depending on traffic. Laguna & Boat Avenue are about 25 minutes away.
  The Green Pizza restaurant was a great place to stop for a bite to eat after our mornings at thanyapura. Staying at Thalang Pool Villa was a pleasant experience. I nearly forgot to mention Honey, the family dog who came to visit most days which was a bonus for me being a dog lover 🐾😊

  The guest house is fantastic the pool is private and it is simply a quite heaven super big garden
  
  The same evening they suggested a seafood restaurant 5 minutes away from the house by car – best seafood I ever had
  
  The next day I booked a tour with the host who brought me to Samet Nangshe the best view over Phangnah Bay
  
  then lunch at a very local shop the best Phad Thai ever had
  
  In the evening relaxed on the pool side the host brought me another coconut
  
  Date of departure the host extended my stay till 7 pm as I had a later flight and the host brought me to the airport
