When I first pulled up to Wayla Villa@Maikhaobeach, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But this four-star property surprised me in the best way — it’s tucked away in a quiet soi that feels worlds apart from the busier parts of Phuket. The villa-style setup immediately caught my attention, and you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t try too hard to impress you end up being the most memorable. The attention to detail throughout the property speaks volumes about the care taken in every aspect of the guest experience.

Location & Neighborhood

Mai Khao Beach is where locals go when they want to escape the crowds, and this place gets that completely. You’re actually on the same stretch of sand where sea turtles come to nest — I mean, how cool is that? The beach here is wide and clean, without the parade of vendors you’ll find elsewhere. It’s about a 15-minute drive to the airport, which sounds close but trust me, you won’t hear the planes. The area feels authentically Thai, with local seafood shacks and small temples scattered around that most tourists never discover.

The Villa Experience

Each room here is actually more like a private retreat — spacious, modern, but with those thoughtful Thai touches that make you remember where you are. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are larger than what you’d expect. What I loved most was the private terrace space — perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. The whole setup feels intimate, like you’re staying at a friend’s well-designed vacation home rather than a typical hotel. Natural light floods through large windows, creating an airy and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

Dining & Daily Life

There isn’t a formal restaurant on-site, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. The staff can arrange private dining experiences, and there’s a great local seafood place just a short walk down the beach that serves the freshest catch you’ll find anywhere. I actually preferred this setup — it forced me to explore the neighborhood and discover spots I never would have found otherwise. Plus, the villa has everything you need for simple meals if you want to stay in. The flexibility and personalized service make every meal feel special and memorable.

This place has earned its 9.3 rating because it delivers something increasingly rare — genuine tranquility without sacrificing comfort. Couples especially seem to get it (and I can see why), but I think anyone looking to experience a quieter side of Thailand would appreciate what Wayla Villa offers. The staff treats you like family, the location gives you authentic beach vibes, and you’ll leave feeling like you discovered something special.   Our daughter felt like a queen during our stay, the breakfast was incredible each day (choice of a main dish, fruit platter and toast with tea and coffee!) and kept us full until dinner, we chose to eat at the Wayla Restaurant three times (would recommend the massaman curry and the chicken and cashew nuts, tried my first ever coconut here and we also had a lovely fried fish on the first night too) as the food was amazing and our four year old loved the margarita pizza (she’s in a plain food stage!). There are plenty of other places to eat too, and a useful little supermarket and ATM a short walk away.
  
  We were the only people at the pool each time we went to use it so it felt like a private space (obviously down to chance!). The beach was a short walk away, unfortunately it does have a lot of rubbish on it but close to the sea was clear and they put out flags to warn you when it’s dangerous to swim. We walked all the way to the spot where the planes take off overhead, there’s a few food stalls there which was a good reward for the effort.
  
  We felt a bit guilty because we didn’t travel outside of Mai Khao and see more of Thailand, we have moved to Malaysia for work and wanted a well deserved lazy break, and Wayla Villa gave us that and more. The people working at the villa and restaurant were all lovely, very helpful and made our daughter smile. We are looking forward to coming back in the future!

  Had a cool room with access directly Japanese theme. Large area and bedroom. Full kitchen and a small fridge. Nice small pool on site. Great food options, all close to the property

  A lovely hotel which has everything you need our room was spotless and the bed was so comfy. The owner is very kind n gave us a lift to where we were going so we didn’t need to wait for a taxi. Would recommend staying here when in the area.

  Friendly staff, pool was nice and relaxing, having the restaurant on location was great after a long day of travel. served very good food, appeared others were coming from other places to eat there. Arranged a massage for us very helpful and accommodating and even gave us a ride to the airport !

  Lovely family run villa, great for our first night after arriving late, had a walk to the beach in the morning, about a mile away but worth it. Food was great and the staff so friendly, the owner even drove us to Koh Sok for a great price.

  I I liked the attitude of the staff to the guests, thank you for the offered help! The owner also helped us get to the place of watching the planes. We also celebrated the New Year here. The owners organized a beautiful fireworks show,. Near the hotel there are grocery stores, fruits, several coffee shops and restaurants within a 5-minute distance.
