You know what caught me off guard about Villa Tha Maphrao? The name literally means “coconut villa” in Thai, and honestly, it delivers on that tropical promise in ways I wasn’t expecting from a four-star property. I mean, I’ve stayed at plenty of places that throw around coconut palm imagery in their marketing, but this place actually feels like you’re tucked away in your own little slice of Thai paradise.

The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of calm – maybe it’s the way they’ve designed the common areas with all these natural materials, or how the staff genuinely seems happy to see you rather than just going through the motions. The rooms are spacious without feeling cavernous, and I loved the little touches like the locally-sourced toiletries that actually smell amazing (not that generic hotel soap scent). The beds are properly comfortable too, which you’d hope for but can never really count on. What really impressed me was the attention to detail – fresh flowers that get replaced daily, not when they’re half-dead, and the air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine taking off every few minutes.

The location is pretty solid too, though you’ll want to factor in some travel time if you’re planning to hit the main tourist spots. But honestly, that’s part of the charm – you get that authentic local vibe without being completely cut off from civilization. The breakfast spread is better than you’d expect, with a nice mix of Western options and local dishes that’ll give you a real taste of the area. I actually found myself looking forward to mornings there, which says something. The pool area gets busy around mid-morning, so if you’re after some quiet time, early morning or late afternoon works better. With a 9.9 rating, I was curious if it could possibly live up to the hype, but after a few days there, I get it – it’s one of those places that just gets the balance right between comfort and character. Sure, it’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about Villa Tha Maphrao that makes you want to extend your stay an extra night or two.

  Very welcoming host (Peter) super clean property throughout and very comfortable. Fantastic breakfast and great swimming pool. We only stayed 1 night but wish we could have stayed more. When we come back to Phuket, VTM will be our go-to home from home booking.

  This place far exceeded our expectations. Peter was very friendly and we felt likespecial guests. We went to a fantastic local seafood resturant for lunch and dinner was also fantastic at a recommended place. The pool is amazing and everything is perfect. Breakfast was superb ! Cannot recommend highly enough for travellers that want to visit a peaceful authentic part of Phuket.

  We booked two nights at the Villa Tha Maphrao either end of our Thailand holiday and would happily have stayed longer. From the pick up at the airport to arrival at the oasis of calm and tranquility that is the Villa Tha Maphrao everything is geared towards the comfort and relaxation of the guests.
  We chose VTM due to its proximity to the airport but were soon to realise it is so much more. Peter and his wife Oi are two of the warmest hosts you could imagine. Their raison d'etre is ensuring their guests feel at home and we certainly did. Our stay at the beginning of the holiday provided us with a welcome opportunity to rest and recoup after a long flight, similarly at the end of our holiday we returned and enjoyed our last couple of nights relaxing before our early flight home.
  Peter is a knowledgeable and warm host who gets the balance just right – he goes out of his way to meet the needs of his guests but in a subtle way so you do not feel overwhelmed and your privacy is maintained. One evening Peter dropped us off at a fabulous local fish restaurant, the food was superb and excellent price point. We also ate at a traditional Thai beach restaurant that we would never have found ourselves. Oi is quite possibly the sweetest host you will ever meet, she goes out of her way to ensure you have everything you need and cooks fabulous Thai food and amazing breakfasts including platters of fruit, home made yoghurt, coconut pancakes and freshly baked cakes and banana bread. Oi is always on the go, working tirelessly to ensure that everywhere is spotlessly clean for her guests, our rooms were the cleanest of anywhere we stayed in Thailand with crisp white bed linemen changed daily.
  The pool is just perfect – clean and ideal temperature for cooling dips and nighttime swims under the stars.

  We had a wonderful and peaceful stay here. Villa the Maphrao is located in the greenery of Thalang, perfectly secluded from the busy world and the absolute number one oasis for peace of mind. The villa overlooking the stunning azure-blue pool and high-reaching palm trees behind.
  Super-clean room with extra touches – lockbox, towels and many more, that bring the comfort to the pleasant stay. Wide comfy bed that makes you feel at home. Very well priced for the value. Breakfast is the cherry on top, that definitely spice up the restful days.
  Peter and Oi are lovely hosts and very helpful. Super responsive to any questions one may have. Great communication.
  Amazing location to discover the island by scooter or organised tours. Airport is about 15 mins driving distance.
  We loved it so much that we extended and had a relaxing time here. Thank you for the unforgettable holiday!
