When I first pulled up to Villa Papaya @ Kamala Beach, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star villa tucked away in the Wallaya complex. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you. The property sits in this quiet spot where you get lake views instead of the usual tourist chaos — which, after spending time in busier parts of Phuket, felt like finding a hidden gem. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try too hard to impress you right off the bat.

Location and Getting Around

The location really works in your favor here, especially if you’re traveling as a couple. Kamala Beach is just close enough that you can walk there when you want that beach time, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the crowds and noise all day long. I mean, sometimes you want to actually relax on vacation, right? The fact that they offer free private parking on-site is honestly a game-changer if you’re planning to rent a scooter or car to explore the island — which I’d definitely recommend doing. You’re about 20 minutes from Phuket Town when you want to dive into the local food scene or do some shopping.

The Villa Experience

What I really appreciated about my room was how it felt more like staying in someone’s well-designed home rather than a typical hotel. The space has this modern Thai aesthetic without being overly themed — you know how some places go overboard with the elephant statues and bamboo everything. The lake view from the windows actually makes for a pretty peaceful morning coffee situation, and the air conditioning works properly (trust me, this matters more than you think in Thailand’s heat). The bathroom setup is solid too, with good water pressure and space to spread out your stuff.

Daily Life at the Villa

One thing that sets this place apart is how it caters to couples who want some independence during their stay. The villa setup means you’re not constantly bumping into other guests in hallways or fighting for pool chairs. There’s a communal pool area that’s usually pretty quiet during the day — I found it perfect for an afternoon swim without the resort crowd energy. The staff keeps things running smoothly without being overly present, which strikes a nice balance. You can easily grab food from nearby local spots or venture out to that great restaurant strip along Kamala Beach when you want something fancier.

Why Guests Love It

After staying here, I get why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. It’s got that sweet spot of being private enough to feel special but accessible enough that you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere. The recent guest rating of 8.1 for location makes total sense — you’re positioned perfectly to explore different parts of Phuket without being tied to one crowded beach area. Plus, there’s something to be said for a place where you can park easily, come and go as you please, and still have a beautiful space to return to at the end of the day.

  Check in was easy and the host was very nice. It was easy to get grab food delivered to the villa.

  La villa è bellissima, curata nello stile e nell’arredamento, si vede che è stata disegnata da un architetto che sapeva il fatto suo ed arredata da un altro altrettanto bravo. Nel salone al piano terra, con angolo cottura, un ampio divano, un tavolo grande da 8 persone e una bella TV.
  Sullo stesso piano, un piccolo locale lavanderia e un bagno. Dal salone, finestre a tutta altezza si affacciano sulla piccola ma suggestiva piscina, immersa nella natura.
  Al primo piano, una bella camera da letto padronale con il suo grande bagno e uno studio e al piano superiore ancora due belle camere con letto matrimoniale, ognuna con il suo bagno.
  Gli spazi sono abbondanti, tutto è pulito ed organizzato, accogliente.
  Gli asciugamani profumano di pulito, ce ne sono anche 6 dedicati all’uso in piscina; nei bagni ci sono anche shampoo, bagnoschiuma ed un gradito kit di cortesia con cuffia, spazzolini, cotton fioc.
  In tutte le camere aria condizionata.
  
  Per le zanzare, abbiamo utilizzato zampironi per l’esterno e piastrine per le camere (procurate da noi) ma non ce ne erano tantissime nonostante la villa si affacci su un piccolo “lago” di acqua ferma.
  
  Lo staff è assolutamente pronto e disponibile.
  Insomma davvero un bel posto in cui soggiornare, a 10 minuti in macchina dalla spiaggia di Kamala e abbastanza comodo per raggiungere anche le altre spiagge di Phuket.
