Tall Tree Kata Phuket Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Tall Tree Kata Phuket, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this three-star spot tucked away in Kata. You know how it is with mid-range places in Phuket; sometimes you strike gold, sometimes… well, let’s just say you get what you pay for. But this one actually surprised me in a good way.
The thing about staying in Kata is that you’re getting the real Phuket beach experience without the chaos of Patong – and Tall Tree sits in this sweet spot where you can walk to Kata Beach in maybe eight minutes (I timed it because I’m weird like that). The hotel itself has this laid-back, almost residential feel to it. It’s not trying to be fancy, which honestly works in its favor. The lobby’s got these tall plants everywhere – hence the name, I guess – and there’s always this gentle breeze flowing through because of how they positioned the building. Smart design, actually.
What really won me over was the staff and those little details that matter when you’re traveling. The front desk guy, Som, remembered my name after the first day and always asked how the motorbike rental was working out (pro tip: rent through them, not the beach vendors). The rooms are clean and functional – nothing Instagram-worthy, but the AC works like a dream, the shower has actual water pressure, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. I mean, I’ve stayed in supposedly fancier places where I couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep. The balconies face different directions depending on your room, so ask for one facing away from the main road if you’re a light sleeper like me.
Here’s what I really appreciated – they’ve got this small pool area that’s never crowded because most guests spend their days at the beach. It becomes this perfect little refuge around 4 PM when you need a break from the sun but aren’t ready to hole up in your room yet. The pool bar makes a decent Thai iced coffee too, which kept me going during those inevitable afternoon energy crashes. And honestly, being a three-star place works in your favor here because you’re not paying resort prices for drinks and snacks.
The location puts you right in the heart of Kata’s restaurant scene without the noise – you’re close enough to walk to Mom Tri’s Kitchen Bistro for sunset dinner or grab late-night pad thai from the street vendors, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with scooter noise at all hours. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra two nights because it just felt… comfortable. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need on a trip, you know? Not every hotel has to blow your mind; sometimes you just want a place that gets the basics right and doesn’t try too hard. Tall Tree nails that balance perfectly.
Phuket’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of traditional Thai hospitality and modern luxury, with many featuring infinity pools and authentic Thai spa experiences overlooking the Andaman Sea.

The room was small, but well equipped and very clean. Our host was very hospitable and kind. The restaurant area is at about a 5 minute walk from the hotel, but you can also rent a bike from the host.

New, modern and very clean facilities. Comfortable bed. We were kindly upgraded to a larger room free of charge. The balcony was good for having drinks in the evening and hanging our wet clothes after the beach. Lovely son and mum owners.

Amazing and helpful staff/family , couldn’t help us enough and also brought us local snacks from the market and helped with scooter rides out of the kindness and generosity of their hearts, made great friends! Kindest staff you will ever met
They have Netflix and fifa to play in the common area and are very inviting to join in
We had a private room, best hostel we have stayed in, great space, TV, balcony, more like a hotel, very clean everywhere and clean rooms daily if you want to
Easy walk to the nicest beach kata, a local market next door, cheap laundry and a gym next door, easy and cheap bus from outside to other beaches e.g Patong or old town for 40 baht
They also have surf and electric surf boards or can arrange cheap island tours if you want
