Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first rolled up to Surin Sunset Hotel – SHA, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place. But you know what? Sometimes those modest expectations lead to the best surprises. This little gem sits right in the heart of Surin Beach area, and while it’s not going to blow you away with fancy lobbies or infinity pools, there’s something genuinely comfortable about the whole setup.

What really got me was the staff – they actually remember your name after the second day, which is rare these days. The rooms are clean and honestly bigger than I expected, with decent air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train (thank god, because Phuket heat is no joke). The beds are firm but comfortable, and I mean, the hot water works consistently, which is more than I can say about some pricier places I’ve stayed. The sunset views from the upper floors are actually pretty spectacular – not Instagram-perfect or anything, but real and beautiful in that unpretentious way. You can hear the waves from most rooms, though it does get a bit lively on weekend nights when the beach bars get going.

Here’s the thing that made me appreciate this place – it’s perfectly positioned if you want to experience Surin without paying resort prices. You’re literally a three-minute walk to the beach, and there’s this little local coffee shop just around the corner that serves the best Thai iced coffee for like 40 baht. The hotel’s restaurant is nothing fancy, but their pad thai is surprisingly good, and the breakfast spread covers all the basics plus some local touches. Parking can be a bit tight during high season (November through March gets pretty packed), but the front desk guys always figure something out. I stayed here during a particularly busy week in February, and while the pool area got crowded around midday, early mornings and evenings were perfect for a quiet swim. The WiFi actually works throughout the property, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but unfortunately still is in some places. If you’re the type who needs everything to be pristine and Instagram-ready, this might not be your spot – but if you want a solid, unpretentious base for exploring Phuket’s west coast without breaking the bank, it’s a smart choice.

  Excellent for the price. Basic room but large for 3 people and comfortable. 5min walk to the beach and loads of restaurants around. Will def recommend if you don't want to break the budget and looking for a place for a night or 2.

  Didn’t have breakfast but the hotel was very well placed for the shops near Surin beach, and the smart bus stop was only 200 metres up the road.

  Excellent location, close to Surin Beach (1-minute walk), 7/11 across the street and next to a great Thai restaurant called Madams. Bang Tao night market is close by and a must-visit. Strong WIFI, a comfy bed, a fridge in the room and 2 bottles of free water daily. The staff were very helpful.
