Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Sunwing Kamala Beach – you know how these beach resorts can sometimes look better in photos than reality. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. It sits right on one of Phuket’s quieter stretches of sand, and I mean actually ON the beach, not like those places that claim beachfront access but you’ve got to walk through three hotels to get there.

What struck me first was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth (rare for a busy four-star property), and they actually remembered my name the next day – small touch, but it matters. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid mid-range resort, nothing groundbreaking but clean and comfortable with decent air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine. I stayed in one of the poolside rooms and honestly, the view of the main pool area was pretty nice, especially in the early morning when everything’s still quiet and you can hear the waves just beyond the palm trees.

The real win here is the location though. Kamala Beach itself is still relatively chill compared to the chaos you’ll find at Patong or Kata – you can actually have a conversation on the sand without shouting over jet skis and beach vendors every two minutes. That said, when you do want some action, the main strip with its local restaurants and bars is just a short walk up the road. I found this great little seafood place called Pla Pla that the hotel staff recommended – the kind of spot where locals actually eat, not just tourists. The resort’s own restaurant is decent enough for breakfast (solid Thai options alongside the standard Western fare), but I’d definitely venture out for dinner. You’re also close enough to the Saturday walking market in Kamala village if you time your visit right – it’s way more authentic than the touristy night markets elsewhere on the island. With an 8.6 rating from other guests, it’s clear I’m not the only one who thinks this place strikes a good balance between comfort and value without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

  Excellent property. This hotel checks all the boxes when travelling with children and young adults and they have a share in the pie for every age spectrum, from kids pools, slides, bernie and lollo clubs, economical massages by the pool and the beaches. Complimentary meals for the children when adults order at the restaurant, both at the resort and at Fino's restaurant by the beach. Breakfast buffet is very delectable with a sumptuous spread. Beach is just a few steps away. Lots of restaurant options by the beach and a 7/11 convenience store. Highly recommended.
  We stayed in the Happy Baby Studio which was very self contained, with a stroller high chair provided Complimentary from the resort.

  The hotel was ideal for families – the location by the beach made it perfect for a holiday alternating between the beach and the pools. Plenty of pools to swim in, and lots of sun loungers were available meaning you could move around easily. Plenty of restaurants by the beach to eat out at as well.

  Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The resort was nice and clean. Many pool options to suit your needs. The restaurant food for lunch & dinner were always delicious, and there was a wide variety of offerings at the breakfast buffet as well. Hotel is walking distance to other amenities, including shops and street stalls. Would definitely recommend, especially for families.
