I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sunwing Bangtao Beach, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like your typical resort setup. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The location on Bangtao Beach is genuinely fantastic, and I mean that – you’re not stuck in some touristy bubble where everything feels manufactured. The beach here still has that authentic Phuket vibe, with local longtail boats bobbing around and actual Thai families having weekend picnics nearby.

What really won me over was how this four-star property manages to feel both polished and unpretentious at the same time. The rooms are spacious (seriously, way bigger than I expected) and they’ve got this clean, modern aesthetic without being sterile. The pool area is where you’ll probably spend most of your time – it’s designed in this cool multi-level way that somehow never feels crowded, even when the place is busy. I stayed during high season and still found quiet spots to actually relax. The staff here genuinely seems to care too, which honestly can be hit or miss at resort properties. They remembered my name after day two, knew I preferred iced coffee over hot, little things like that.

Here’s what you should know practically speaking – Phuket can be overwhelming with traffic and crowds, but Bangtao is far enough north that you avoid the worst of it while still being close enough to everything. The hotel’s location means you can walk to some excellent local restaurants (there’s this tiny place called Suay that does incredible pad thai, just a five-minute stroll down the beach road). The resort restaurant is actually decent too, which surprised me – usually hotel food is overpriced and mediocre, but their Thai dishes are legit. Parking is easy if you rent a scooter, and honestly, that’s the best way to explore this part of the island. The only minor complaint I have is that the WiFi can be spotty by the pool, but really, isn’t that kind of a blessing in disguise? Overall, it’s one of those places that just gets the balance right – comfortable without being stuffy, well-located without being chaotic, and reasonably priced for what you get. I’d definitely stay here again, and I’m pretty picky about my hotels.

  This resort provides everything a family needs to have some nice beach holidays. Good restaurants with fast and reliable service, good beach and pools, and lots of entertainment for the kids, including an amazing Scandinavian Band with 4 Singers, that play at night. This band alone is enough for me to want to return to this hotel next year!

  We loved the pools, location of the hotel being right on the beach, and the room. Our room was old, but comfortable and clean. The beach was clean and safe. A perfect place for families. Definitely one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

  Our kids favourite stay in Thailand. Chilled vibe with families everywhere. Beachfront with restaurants on site. Pools were big and the whole place had a relaxing atmosphere. The beds were comfortable and air conditioning was good. Convenient store across the road. Enough Sun lounges for everyone.
