Walking into Sunset Beach Resort – SHA Extra Plus, you immediately get that “beach resort but not too fancy” vibe that honestly works perfectly for Patong Beach. It’s a four-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — and I mean that in the best way possible. The lobby has this relaxed tropical feel, and you can actually hear the ocean from the entrance, which is pretty nice when you’re checking in after a long flight.
Location & Getting Around
The location on Phrabaramee Road is actually quite smart — you’re close enough to all the Patong action but far enough away that you won’t have drunk tourists stumbling past your window at 3 AM. The beach is literally right there, and I found myself walking to the main strip in about 10 minutes when I wanted dinner or nightlife. What I really appreciated was the free parking on site, which is honestly a godsend if you’re planning to rent a scooter or car to explore other parts of Phuket.
The Room Experience
My room was pretty standard for a four-star beach resort — clean, comfortable, with that slightly dated but well-maintained feel you expect in this price range. The air conditioning worked great (crucial in Phuket’s heat), and the balcony view was decent, though not spectacular. What I liked most was how quiet it was at night — the soundproofing is better than you’d expect for a resort this close to Patong’s main area.
Food & Facilities
The breakfast buffet is actually quite impressive — they’ve got everything from continental options to proper Asian dishes, plus American classics if you’re craving something familiar. I was surprised by the vegetarian selection too, which isn’t always a given at Thai beach resorts. The spa is small but does the job if you need to unwind, and there’s a fitness center that’s basic but has the essentials. If you’re traveling with kids, they’ll probably love the kids’ club, though I can’t speak to that personally.

The Pool is Lovely.. the water is just the perfect temperature to cool down after a hot day. Swim up Bar is a great feature too. Free Van Shuttle into Phuket is great 👍🏻
