I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Sugar Marina Resort-LAGOON-Villas, Naiyang Beach, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But you know what? This four-star property actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lagoon concept isn’t just marketing fluff – they’ve genuinely created these gorgeous water features that wind between the villa clusters, and you can actually hear the gentle lapping even from inside your room. It’s about a five-minute walk to Naiyang Beach itself, which honestly works out perfectly because you get that beachy vibe without the constant sound of waves if you’re a light sleeper like me.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to feel both upscale and relaxed at the same time. The villas themselves are spacious – I mean really spacious, not that “generous” nonsense you usually read about. Each one has its own little outdoor area, and most face either the lagoon or have some kind of garden view. The pools (there are several scattered around) never felt crowded, even when I visited during what the staff told me was a pretty busy period. I spent most afternoons at the main pool area, which has this great swim-up bar situation, though I have to say the drinks are a bit pricey – but that’s pretty standard for resort properties in Phuket. The location is actually brilliant if you want to be near the airport without feeling like you’re stuck in an airport hotel – Naiyang is much quieter than Patong or Kata, but you’ve still got decent restaurants within walking distance along the beach road.

Here’s the thing that really won me over though – the staff genuinely seemed to enjoy working there, which makes such a difference in how your stay feels. Check-in was smooth, they remembered my name throughout the week, and when I mentioned I was interested in trying some local spots, the concierge gave me actual recommendations, not just the usual tourist traps. The breakfast spread is solid without being overwhelming, and they make a surprisingly good Thai coffee if you ask for it specifically. I did notice the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some of the villas further from the main building, but honestly, that might be a blessing depending on why you’re traveling. The whole property has this calm, almost zen-like quality that grows on you – by day three, I was completely relaxed in a way that doesn’t always happen at resorts. If you’re looking for wild nightlife, this isn’t your spot, but if you want somewhere that feels special without trying too hard, Sugar Marina really delivers on that lagoon promise.

  Being a new hotel, the rooms were lovley. The beds were very soft, bright colour in the room and nice bathroom. The app used for room service, ordering housecleaning and viewing shuttle bus times was great! This made communication easy at the hotel.
