I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Sugar Marina Hotel – FASHION – Kata Beach – SHA Extra Plus, I thought someone got a little carried away with the branding. But after spending a few days here, I actually get it. This four-star property sits right in the heart of Kata Beach action, and there’s definitely something stylish about the whole setup that feels more curated than your typical beach hotel.

The location is what really sold me on this place. You’re literally a two-minute walk to Kata Beach – I mean, you can hear the waves from some of the rooms, which is either perfect or potentially annoying depending on how light of a sleeper you are. What I loved though is that you’re close enough to feel the beach vibe but just far enough back that you’re not dealing with the constant parade of beach vendors and tour groups that camp out right on the sand. The hotel’s got this modern, almost boutique-y feel that stands out from some of the more generic places scattered around Kata. The lobby area has these interesting design touches – sort of industrial-chic meets tropical, if that makes sense – and the staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, which isn’t always a given at this price point.

You know what surprised me most? The attention to detail in the rooms. Sure, it’s not going to blow your mind luxury-wise, but everything feels intentional. The bathrooms are actually spacious (rare for this area), and they’ve got these rainfall showers that work properly – trust me, I’ve stayed places where that’s more wishful thinking than reality. The pool area gets busy during peak hours, obviously, but if you hit it early morning or late afternoon, it’s actually pretty peaceful. One thing worth noting – the hotel fills up with a good mix of couples and families, so it never feels too party-heavy or too quiet. The restaurant on-site is decent for breakfast and casual dinners, though honestly, with all the incredible local spots within walking distance, you’d be missing out if you didn’t explore. There’s this little family-run place about five minutes away that does the best green curry I had in Thailand, and the hotel staff actually recommended it to me, which says something about their local knowledge. Look, is this the fanciest place you’ll ever stay? Probably not. But for the price and location, especially if you want something that feels a bit more design-forward without the massive resort crowds, it really delivers.

  Sugar Marina is just across Kata beach and near Pamookoo where i attended an event. Price is very good, breakfast is very good! Nice balcony and nice big bed. The restaurant beside it is my absolute favorite ate there too many times.

  Hid away down a little side street so away from the main hustle of the main road but easy to get to everything,
  The room was small but very comfortable and clean ,
  Had an issue with the shower on day 1 and the maintenance team attended immediately and fixed it
  The staff were exceptional, polite, efficient , courteous , really helpful and spoke excellent English
  A very short walk to the nearby excellent beach , all in all a very good stay

  Great location within walking distance to the beach front. The hotel is right in the middle of all the atmosphere on kata beach but set back enough so it wasn’t noisy from the road / bars. The pool and hot tub was really nice, always clean and comfortable. We had a really spacious room, loads of storage space, nice sized bathroom with shower cubical and bath. Housekeeping was always done and the room was always made lovely and smelling nice for when we arrived back.

  The location is the best! walk straight out across the road and onto the beach. The link with a restaurant for the breakfast is super and a very nice breakfast indeed.
