Sometimes those assumptions bite you in the rear, and this turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel a bit silly for judging too quickly.

The lobby hits you with this sort of nautical theme that could’ve gone cheesy real fast, but they actually pulled it off pretty well. There’s weathered wood everywhere and these subtle rope details that feel intentional rather than gimmicky – I mean, with a name like Seven Seas, they had to commit to the bit, right? Check-in was refreshingly smooth too, none of that “your room isn’t ready even though it’s 4 PM” nonsense that seems to plague half the hotels out there these days. The front desk staff actually seemed like they wanted to be there, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re dragging yourself in after a long day of travel.

What really won me over, though, were all those little touches you don’t expect at this price point. The rooms are definitely on the cozy side – and by cozy I mean not huge – but everything feels well thought out. The beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses, ask anyone), and there’s actually decent water pressure in the shower, which is apparently a rare commodity in some places. The whole place has this clean, salt-air smell that isn’t from some artificial air freshener – I think they just keep their windows open during the day, which is refreshing. You can hear a bit of street noise if you’re a light sleeper, but it’s more of a gentle urban hum than anything jarring. I actually found it kind of soothing after the first night.

The common areas are where this place really shines, though. There’s this little reading nook by the front windows where I spent way too much time with my morning coffee, just watching the neighborhood wake up. And the breakfast area – well, it’s not fancy, but they do this thing with fresh pastries that arrive around 7 AM, still warm, and honestly that’s the kind of detail that sticks with you. The WiFi is solid throughout the building too, which matters more than people want to admit these days. I worked from the lobby a couple afternoons and never had issues with calls dropping or pages loading slowly. Overall, Seven Seas punches well above its weight class – it’s got that 8.4 rating for good reason, and I’d definitely stay here again without hesitation.
