The kitchen facilities are proper enough that you can actually cook if you want to (and honestly, sometimes you need a break from pad thai every meal), and there’s enough space that you don’t feel like you’re tripping over your luggage constantly. The location in Kamala puts you right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to Patong if you want the chaos, but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without bass lines thumping through your walls. I found the whole area around CityGate pretty walkable during the day, though like most places in Phuket, you’ll probably want wheels or be prepared to negotiate with tuk-tuk drivers if you’re planning to explore much. The staff seemed to get that most guests are trying to figure out the area – they’re pretty good with directions and honest about timing for getting places, which you don’t always get. It’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but there’s something refreshingly straightforward about it that works, especially if you’re planning to spend more time out exploring than sitting in your room anyway.
