Ratana Hotel Chalong Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Ratana Hotel Chalong, I wasn’t expecting much from this four-star spot tucked away in the Chalong area. But you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t immediately scream luxury end up being exactly what you need, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring Phuket’s southern beaches rather than lounging by a pool.

The thing about staying in Chalong is that you’re really positioning yourself perfectly for island hopping – I mean, Chalong Pier is literally your gateway to Phi Phi, Coral Island, and all those postcard-perfect spots everyone talks about. The hotel staff actually knows this too, which is refreshing. They’ve got tour booking sorted without the usual pushy sales pitch, and they genuinely seem to understand that most guests are using this as a launching pad for adventures rather than a destination in itself. The rooms are clean and comfortable enough (though I’d say the air conditioning works overtime during the hot season, which honestly saved my sanity more than once). What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night – you’re away from the chaos of Patong but still close enough to decent restaurants and those little local spots where you can grab proper Thai food without the tourist markup.

The pool area is actually pretty decent for an afternoon cooldown, and I noticed they keep it well-maintained even during the busier months. Parking was never an issue when I was there, which might seem like a small thing until you’ve tried to find a spot near some of the more popular hotels during peak season. The breakfast is… well, it’s hotel breakfast, but they do a solid job with the local options if you skip the Western stuff. What I really appreciated was their laid-back approach to check-in and check-out – no rushing, no attitude, just efficient service that lets you get on with your day. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the decor is pretty standard, but sometimes you just want a reliable place to sleep between beach days and boat trips. For the price point and location, Ratana delivers on the basics while keeping you close to what makes this part of Phuket special.

  • Mark from United Kingdom (9/10)

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Room cleaned every day. The hotel is situated on a busy main road but set back and quiet. If you hire a scooter it is an easy access point to other areas such as Rawai ,Nai Harn and Karon. Chalong peer is just opposite with some nice restaurants. I feel it’s a good location and not as expensive as the main beach areas

  • Erez from Israel (9/10)

It is a nice little hotel with a pool and gym, very good value for money, just by a 7-11 , a great french cafe', the chalong circle and the ISP international school. Friendly staff,

  • Abernethy from Thailand (7/10)

It is local to an area of Phuket that I am familiar with.

  • Sofia from Malaysia (8/10)

Incredibly helpful staff who greeted you every time they saw you. Even rented our motorbikes from the hotel itself. Room was cleaned everyday though the floors become quite slippery after. Had loads of channels from different countries. Comfortable stay for the price you pay. I didn’t regret my stay.

  • Marianne from Denmark (8/10)

We stayed in two different room types, standard double room and 2 bedroom apartment. Both were fine. One room in the apartment didn’t have a window which was a bit depressing. Good service, water every day, nice staff and great pool area. Close to Chalong Pier. Need a motorbike to get around and to the beach.
