You know what caught me off guard about PorterHouse Beach Hotel? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you, and somehow that makes it way more charming than the flashier resorts nearby. I mean, sure, it’s a three-star property, so you’re not getting marble everything and a butler, but honestly – sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The lobby has this lived-in feel, like a beach house that’s been in someone’s family for decades, with worn wooden floors that actually creak a little when you walk across them. The staff behind the front desk genuinely seem to remember your name after the first day, which is refreshing when you’re used to being treated like room number 237.

The rooms are clean and comfortable without being fancy – think crisp white linens, simple furniture that’s seen some years but holds up well, and those big windows that actually open (thank god, because sometimes the AC gets a bit enthusiastic). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even during busier times. You might hear the ocean if you listen for it, but you won’t be dealing with slamming doors or hallway conversations at 2 AM. The bathrooms are smaller than what you’d find at bigger chain hotels, but they’ve got good water pressure and plenty of hot water, which honestly matters more than having a massive vanity. I will say the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty in some rooms – not a deal-breaker, but worth mentioning if you’re planning to work from there.

Here’s the thing about this place though – it’s all about the location and the vibe rather than bells and whistles. You’re literally steps from the beach, and I mean actual steps, not that “short walk to the beach” nonsense that turns out to be a fifteen-minute hike. The hotel’s little stretch of sand never gets completely packed, probably because it’s tucked away from the main tourist drag. Mornings are particularly nice – you can grab coffee from their small café (nothing fancy, but decent) and have the beach pretty much to yourself until around 10. The pool area is simple but well-maintained, with enough lounge chairs that you don’t need to wake up early to claim one. Staff keeps the towels stocked and the area tidy without being intrusive about it. Parking is actually included, which saved me about $20 a night compared to other places I looked at. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but if you want a solid, unpretentious base for a beach vacation without paying resort prices, PorterHouse delivers exactly what it promises.

  Ann (the owner) was very sweet and attentive. The view from the room is amazing, big windows make room very sunny. AC worked really well. And when I sorted out how to use boiler, the temperature of water was good. Cleaning ladies were also very nice. And even if you decline cleaning, Ann and cleaning ladies would give you water and coffee. And I mean a lot of water, which is a huge plus for hot country. Ann also gave me beach towel for free, which is also very nice.
  The location for me was 11/10. You just need to cross a road (not a highway) to make it to the beach (like 2 minutes walk). I didn’t like Bangla street (20-25 minutes walk, but ~10 by taxi at rush hour), so the distance from it is also a plus for me. Cause it’s quiet at night. But it’s near 24/7 convenience store (7-11).
  The pool looked clean and was nice to look at from the balcony at night. I didn’t try it, cause you are literally 2 minutes away from the sea.

  Good location, near beach and walking distance from restaurants. Nice pool area and drinks/service in pool bar available, lot's of green. Room has what you need and good bed for all three persons. Easy and good communication, lovely people and thanks for hospitality. If we come back to Patong beach for sure under consideration again.

  Location: right next only cross the road to Patong beach while not noisy. 7-11 and small shops around.
  Bed: 1 large + 1 medium bed, comfortable for our 2 adults & 2 kids.

  Price: Reasonable with high season.

  The property is located right next to the beach and is a 10min walk to all the eateries and the walking street. The pool is also good for an afternoon dip.

  Good location, 20 min walk from Bangla Rd so less busy, 30 metres from the beach. Clean room and beach towels available from reception which was very helpful. Female reception staff was lovely.
