It’s one of those places where you can actually hear the waves from your room – and I mean properly hear them, not just imagine you can. The resort sits right on Karon Beach, which honestly is my favorite stretch of sand in Phuket. Sure, it’s not as famous as Patong, but that’s exactly why it works so well.

The whole place has this relaxed, almost sleepy vibe that I wasn’t expecting from a four-star resort. The staff genuinely seem happy to be there – you’ll notice it right away when you’re checking in. They’re not rushing you through some scripted welcome speech; they actually take time to explain where the good local restaurants are (there’s this incredible pad thai place about a ten-minute walk down the beach road that they pointed me toward). The rooms are solid without being flashy – clean lines, decent air conditioning that actually works, and those floor-to-ceiling windows that make you feel like you’re sleeping right on the beach. I mean, the decor won’t blow your mind, but everything functions properly, which is honestly more than you can say for some places around here.

What really sells this place for me is the location and the little details they get right. Karon Beach itself is wide enough that even during high season, you’re not fighting for a spot to lay your towel. The water’s cleaner than Patong too – less boat traffic, fewer jet skis buzzing around. The resort’s pool area is actually pretty clever; they’ve positioned it so you get these glimpses of the ocean between the palm trees, but you’re not dealing with the wind that sometimes kicks up right on the beachfront. Parking is straightforward if you’re renting a scooter, and the resort’s about a fifteen-minute walk to the main strip where all the restaurants and bars are clustered. It’s far enough that you’re not dealing with noise at night, but close enough that you don’t need to plan a major expedition just to grab dinner. The breakfast spread is better than average – they do a proper Thai section alongside the usual international stuff, and their mango sticky rice is legitimately good. Look, it’s not going to revolutionize your idea of what a resort can be, but Phunawa delivers exactly what it promises: a comfortable, well-located place to base yourself while you explore this part of the island.

  Great resort! The staff were helpful and let us check in early after traveling on an overnight bus and being exhausted. We loved the room, we got free coffee, tea and water daily. The bed was very big and comfortable. Breakfast was good, buffet style with slight changes daily (eg chips one day, mash the next). The pool was nice and big, the outdoor area rarely got busy and we often had it to ourselves, despite being there over Christmas and New year. The location was good as it's a short walk down to the town.
