Phuket Merlin Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Phuket Merlin Hotel on Jawaraj Road, you immediately get that classic Thai hospitality vibe — it’s a four-star property that doesn’t try too hard to impress but somehow just works. The lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feeling that makes you think locals probably hang out here too, which honestly is always a good sign. I mean, when you’re staying right in the heart of Phuket Town, you want something that feels authentic rather than touristy, and this place delivers on that front.
Location & Getting Around
The location is actually brilliant if you know what you’re doing — Jawaraj Road puts you within walking distance of the old town’s colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings and those Instagram-worthy street art murals everyone’s always posting about. You’re close enough to the weekend markets that you can smell the grilled satay from your room (well, almost), but far enough from the chaos that you can actually sleep. The fact that they offer free private parking is huge here — trust me, finding a decent parking spot in Phuket Town can be a nightmare, especially during high season.
The Rooms
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star — clean, comfortable, and functional without being fancy. The air conditioning works well (crucial in this humidity), and the beds are actually pretty decent. You know what I appreciated? The windows are big enough that you get a real sense of the neighborhood, whether that’s the bustling street life or glimpses of the surrounding shophouses. It’s not going to win any design awards, but everything works as it should, and honestly, that’s what matters when you’re out exploring all day.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast buffet covers all the bases — they’ve got Asian options like congee and dim sum alongside American standards like eggs and toast. It’s the kind of spread where everyone in your group will find something they like, which is actually harder to pull off than it sounds. The restaurant area gets busy around 8 AM, so if you’re an early riser, you’ll have more space to yourself. The coffee is decent enough, though if you’re serious about your morning caffeine, there are some excellent local coffee shops within a five-minute walk.
Why Guests Love It
Couples seem to really get this place — there’s something about being in the cultural heart of Phuket that feels more romantic than the beach resort scene. You can wander the old town in the evening, grab dinner at one of those family-run Thai places that don’t even have English menus, and still be back at the hotel in minutes. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you navigate the area, and they’ll point you toward the good local spots rather than just the tourist traps. For the price point and location, it’s one of those places that just makes sense — especially if you want to experience Phuket beyond the beaches and beach clubs.

The room was clean and the shower is good.
Tracey from Canada (8/10)
The rooms are large and very nice. We had a king size bed with lots of pillows. Even an extra little table in the room which we like. Also likes having a fridge and a safe in the room. We enjoyed the pool although there are no steps, just a ladder to get in and out. Everything seemed very clean and well tended to
