Honestly, when I first pulled up to Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, I wasn’t sure what to expect – I mean, there are so many resorts crowding this stretch of coastline. But the moment you walk through those doors, you realize this five-star property actually gets it right in ways that matter. The lobby opens up to this gorgeous view of the Andaman Sea, and you can immediately hear the waves from Merlin Beach just steps away. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to feel both upscale and genuinely Thai at the same time, which is honestly harder to pull off than you’d think.

The location is pretty perfect if you know Phuket well – you’re right on one of the quieter stretches of beach (Merlin Beach doesn’t get the crazy crowds like Patong), but you’re still close enough to everything. I actually loved that you could walk to some local seafood spots that the hotel concierge pointed out, places where you’ll see more Thai families than tourists. The rooms themselves are spacious, and I mean really spacious – not that fake spacious you get with clever mirrors. Our sea-view room had this massive balcony where we basically lived during sunset hour. The bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed, and the air conditioning actually worked properly, which you know can be hit or miss in tropical hotels.

What really sets this place apart though is the staff – they remember your name after like two interactions, and not in that scripted way some places train their people. The spa is genuinely excellent (I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas, but this one knows what they’re doing), and the pool area has these different zones so you can find quiet spots even when it’s busy. The breakfast spread is massive, with proper Thai options alongside the usual international stuff. One small thing that impressed me: the beach service is consistent throughout the day, not just in the morning when management is watching. You’ll pay resort prices for drinks, obviously, but the quality matches what you’re spending. If you’re planning to stay here, book during shoulder season if you can – you get the same gorgeous weather but way fewer crowds, and honestly, the staff has more time to make your stay special.

  The breakfast was amazing. Fantastic selection and everything was fresh. We especially enjoy the Beach Grill breakfast. The staff were amazingly friendly and the cleanliness was perfect.

  We can’t praise the Marriott Merlin Beach highly enough. Everything was perfect, from the rooms and housekeeping, to the restaurants, the pools and facilities. They thought of everything and there were so many nice unexpected little extra touches, like afternoon ice cream for the children or slices of watermelon brought to people relaxing by the pool, a surprise birthday cake and balloons delivered to our room. The kids club activities were super and all the staff were fabulous; so patient, polite, kind and thoughtful. It really was fabulous. Thank you to everyone at Marriott. And an extra thank you to Nene at Thai Pantry for how she looked after my mum and together with her colleagues made my son’s birthday special, and also to the whole team at Merchant Kitchen who were unfailingly brilliant.

  There’s really nothing to dislike. Everything about this place exceeded my expectations. It is the perfect escape and relax at any point in your holiday. For us it was the last place we stayed during 3 weeks. It was unbelievably good.

  Far exceeded our expectations in so many ways! The staff/service was exceptional, particularly the crew at the Kids Club who were all sweet & attentive to the kids — one of them even took the trouble to help mend my kid’s soft toy. They had a well organised schedule of activities which the children really enjoyed. There’s also a schedule of activities for teens/adults. Restaurants and food choices were aplenty and family friendly, there’s always something/options for the kids too. We did not have to leave the compound at all. Swimming pools and deck chairs were aplenty, pool tables and the very fun basketball game. Spa was good value for money (we got a family package which includes massage/nails for the little one). Housekeeping was efficient and room was clean and comfortable everyday !
