You know what caught me off guard about PapaCrab Boutique Guesthouse? The name makes it sound quirky – maybe even a little gimmicky – but honestly, this three-star place has way more character than I expected when I first rolled up with my suitcase.

The moment you walk in, there’s this relaxed coastal vibe that feels authentic rather than forced. I mean, sure, there are subtle crab-themed touches throughout (the door handles are actually pretty clever), but it’s done with this light touch that made me smile instead of roll my eyes. The owner – and I’m pretty sure it was the actual owner who checked me in – genuinely seemed to care about whether I’d had dinner yet and pointed me toward a local spot that wasn’t even listed in my guidebook. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you just can’t fake. The rooms themselves are what I’d call thoughtfully simple. Mine had this gorgeous reclaimed wood headboard and linens that were clearly chosen by someone who actually sleeps in hotel beds, you know? Nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly – strong water pressure, reliable WiFi, and blackout curtains that actually blocked out the morning light when I wanted to sleep in.

What really sets this place apart though is how it manages to feel both intimate and professional at the same time. There were maybe fifteen rooms total, so you’re not fighting crowds for anything, but the service never felt amateur or overwhelmed. The common areas have this lived-in comfort that makes you want to linger over coffee in the morning instead of rushing out. I actually ended up chatting with other guests – something that rarely happens at bigger hotels where everyone’s just passing through anonymous hallways. The location works in your favor too, though it’s not right in the thick of everything (which turned out to be a blessing when I wanted some peace). You’re close enough to walk to the main attractions when you’re feeling energetic, but far enough away that you can actually hear yourself think at night. Parking was surprisingly easy, and check-in was smooth even though I arrived later than planned. Look, it’s not going to wow you with marble lobbies or concierge services, but if you want a place that feels like someone actually thought about what travelers need – rather than what looks good in photos – this hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  Cute little place in a fantastic location just metres from the beach. Bars and restaurants right outside the door, despite this it was quiet and we slept really well.
  The room was comfortable and very clean.
  Fantastic value for money.
  Charly was a great host, communication before and during our stay was great and he gave us lots of tips.

  Unlike usual reviews I wanted first to convey how the owner/operator, Charley has not just built a charming boutique guest home that gives people a spotlessly clean and well thought out place to rest, but due to his ongoing work outside of the guest house, he helps the local community in an extremely positive way.
  
  We learned that after the devastating tsunami 20 years ago, Charley came to Thailand simply to help people. And then he stayed here. And now today, all these years later he’s still here helping a nearby school for under-privileged kids and their families.
  
  So if you stay here, you will be indirectly making a contribution to local families.
  
  As if that wasn’t enough reason, this is a justified boutique with a 9+ rating for many good reasons.

  Literally a one minute walk to the beach
  It’s a very pleasant and slightly quieter part of the beach – with a 5-10 minute walk to the busier area so you get the best of both worlds.
  Many restaurants, massage and tailoring shops to choose from.
  7/11 convenience stores either end of your street.
  A great night market Monday, Thursday and Friday with food, clothing and assorted stuff to pick through.
  Bolt or Grab taxis to Pa tong or old town Phuket for their legendary market.

  PapaCrab is a perfekt place to stay at Kamala beach! The room was clean, had everything we needed including bottles of drink water which were refilled every day with a room cleaning. AC was comfy and user friendly. Good door against mosquitos. Everything is nearby, the beach is only a few minutes by walking. The only drawback was a darker room (not enough lights) and quite small bathroom, but that is nothing compared to the whole experience. Charly as a host was pefect and very kind, smiling and helpful. If you are staying at Kamala, definitely accomodate here!

  Charly and his wife made us feel very welcome! They are super kind and the location of the B&B is perfect, in the street with restaurants and massages, super close to the beach. They offer free umbrella’s for rain and sun. The room has a mini fridge which is nice.
