I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Novotel Phuket City Phokeethra, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from a five-star property right in the heart of Phuket City. You know how it is with city hotels on an island famous for its beaches – sometimes they feel like afterthoughts. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing that struck me immediately was how they’ve managed to create this sort of urban oasis vibe without feeling disconnected from the real Phuket happening just outside. I mean, you’re literally in the thick of things – walking distance to the weekend market on Thalang Road (which, honestly, gets pretty chaotic but in that good authentic way), and you can easily grab a tuk-tuk to anywhere you want to go. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions, and they actually knew their stuff when I asked about getting to some of the less touristy temples around town. The rooms have that clean, modern Novotel feel you’d expect, but what I really appreciated were the little touches – decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how many places mess this up), blackout curtains that actually work, and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train.

What really won me over, though, was how well this hotel works as a base for exploring beyond just the obvious tourist spots. The concierge pointed me toward this incredible local coffee shop about ten minutes away that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, having a proper hotel breakfast before heading out to navigate Phuket’s sometimes overwhelming options was clutch. The pool area isn’t huge, but it’s perfectly fine for cooling off after a day of temple-hopping or dealing with the intensity of Old Town’s afternoon heat. I stayed here during shoulder season, so it wasn’t packed, but I could see how it might get busier when the tour groups are in full swing. The only minor thing – and this is really nitpicking – is that the elevator can be a bit slow during peak hours, but that’s pretty standard for hotels this size. Look, if you’re the type who needs to be right on the beach, this obviously isn’t your spot. But if you want to actually experience Phuket beyond the resort bubble while still having a comfortable, reliable place to retreat to – somewhere with proper amenities and staff who know what they’re doing – this place delivers. It’s one of those hotels that just makes sense, you know?

Hotel in Phuket booking should be done early, especially during high season when the island hosts internationally celebrated beach parties and cultural festivals at Patong Beach and other iconic locations.

  The location of the hotel is only 15mins walk from the charming old town. The rooms are nice and clean. Staff are friendly. Roof top bar is awesome. Swimming pool is nice and is shaded from the sun.

  I could have not been happier with the staff. I found them to be warm and welcoming, always happy to help. The pool area is nice however as this is exposed to the elements and does not appear heated, this could limit its use. The room was large, good storage space and large bathroom.
