I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Newly Opened – Blu Monkey Hub and Hotel Laguna, Bangtao, I was a bit skeptical. Another new place in the Bangtao area? But after spending a few days there, I actually get what they’re going for, and it works better than I expected.

The whole “hub” concept isn’t just marketing speak – they’ve genuinely created this space where you can work, hang out, and sleep without feeling like you’re stuck in a typical hotel bubble. The lobby area flows into co-working spaces and then into casual dining spots, so there’s always this gentle buzz of activity. Not loud or chaotic, just… alive, you know? I ended up working from there a couple mornings because the wifi was solid and the coffee didn’t taste like it came from a machine (though I suspect it did). The four-star setup shows in the details – proper outlets everywhere, decent lighting, and chairs you can actually sit in for more than twenty minutes.

What really surprised me was how well they’ve thought through the practical stuff. The rooms are smaller than what you’d find at the big Bangtao beach resorts, but they’re cleverly designed with built-in storage and work spaces that don’t feel cramped. The beds are firm – maybe too firm if you’re used to sinking into something plush, but I slept well. The bathrooms have those rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure, which honestly made my day. You’re about a ten-minute walk from the main Bangtao beach stretch, which means you miss the resort crowds but still get to the good sand easily. There’s a local market just down the road where I grabbed mangoes that were ridiculously cheap and perfectly ripe – the kind of spot you stumble onto when you’re not staying right on the tourist strip. The hotel staff pointed me toward a som tam place nearby that I never would have found otherwise, and it became my go-to lunch spot. I mean, the hotel food is fine – fresh, well-prepared, not trying too hard – but sometimes you want to wander. The pool area gets busy around sunset with a mix of guests and digital nomads who seem to treat the place as their temporary office, but early mornings it’s practically empty if you want to swim some laps. It’s not luxury in the traditional sense, but it’s comfortable and functional in a way that actually makes sense for how people travel now.
