Maikhao Palm Beach Resort – SHA Plus Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Maikhao Palm Beach Resort – SHA Plus, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this corner of Phuket. Maikhao Beach is way up north, about as far from the Patong madness as you can get while still being on the island, and that’s exactly what makes this place special. The resort sits right on this gorgeous stretch of sand that most tourists never even know exists, which means you’re not fighting crowds for a decent spot by the water.
What really struck me about this five-star property is how they’ve managed to feel genuinely Thai without being kitschy about it. The buildings have that low-rise, traditional architecture thing going on – you know, lots of dark wood and terra cotta tiles – but everything feels fresh and well-maintained. I mean, the pools alone are worth the stay. There’s this main infinity pool that seems to go on forever, plus a few smaller ones tucked away if you want something quieter. The rooms are spacious (I stayed in one of the deluxe ones overlooking the gardens) and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Thailand. Little details matter too – like how they actually provide decent coffee in the room and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine taking off.
Here’s the thing though – Maikhao is pretty isolated, so if you’re the type who wants to wander around different restaurants every night or hit up bars, you might feel a bit stuck. The resort has several dining options that are actually quite good (the Thai restaurant does this amazing green curry that I’m still thinking about), but your choices are basically what’s on property or a bit of a trek to find anything else. The beach itself is stunning – wide, clean, and you’ll often have huge stretches to yourself, especially in the mornings. Just be aware that this is where the sea turtles nest, so there are certain times of year when parts of the beach are roped off for conservation. I actually think that’s pretty cool, but some people get annoyed about it. The staff here really knows their stuff and they’re genuinely helpful without being overly formal about everything. Check-in was smooth, they sorted out my early arrival without any fuss, and the concierge gave me some solid local tips that you won’t find in guidebooks. If you’re looking for a place to actually relax and decompress – maybe catch up on reading, enjoy some spa treatments, or just float around in beautiful pools – this place delivers on that front completely.
Apartments in Phuket provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional markets and experience daily life in charming areas like Old Phuket Town and Kamala Beach.

First off, Maikhao Palm Beach Resort and Spa is great if you want a place to rest – and it works with your family too. They have family rooms, a huge area of swimming facilities including a children's pool, some small slides, sun chairs, and a pool bar. There is a building with a gym, table tennis table, spa, and children's play area ("kids zone" or something), which is great for indoor play when it is hot outside.
Breakfast is excellent, with a variety of warm dishes, fresh egg station, breads and pastries, fruit and vegetables, cereals, teas and coffees, cold drinks (juices, etc.) and more. Please don't steal food from the breakfast buffet – that is dishonest, illegal, poor.
There are rooms with sea view, rooms with forest view, probably all have a balcony. Some rooms have their own pool access (direct access to the large general use pool from their rooms, with a more private "landing" behind a hedge). Rooms come with AC, and a mini fridge too, which is nice if you want to cool some drinks or whatever.
The beach is right across a small road from the hotel. Here, you'll get lots of smallish waves and views of fishing boats, as well as easy and comfortable access to the "viewing point" for airplanes at the Phuket airport (it is only a short walk from the hotel).
Nearby: Just beside the hotel, you can find a stall selling fresh fruit and smoothies – they are great! On the other side of the hotel, on the same road, there is a restaurant called Yum yum on the beach. Food here is great and the staff is friendly. A little further down the road towards the airport, there are some more restaurants with food, and right down by the runway viewing area, you'll find motorcycle vendors with their snacks and souvenirs too.
Final point: the staff at this resort are very friendly and helpful. Remember, they are Thai, they have a different culture and different sensibilities, and they overlook SO many faux pas from their guests.Mandy from Germany (8/10)

Location very close to the airport. Nice pool and beach in front. A couple of nice restaurants are walking distance ( I didn't try the food at the hotel). Big and comfortable rooms. Not busy at the hotel or the surroundings.

Lively rooms, great shower and location

A lovely hotel, in a remote location. It can be suitable for those looking for a quieter place. For children there are pools, small slides. The hotel is clean with kind staff, a good breakfast, I think everyone can find something to eat there. Dinner doesn't look fancy, we didn't try.
