I’ll be honest, when I first pulled up to Maikhao Dream Villa Resort and Spa, Maikhao Phuket, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the name’s a bit of a mouthful, and you know how some places promise the world and deliver a postcard. But this five-star spot actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away in Maikhao, which is honestly one of Phuket’s better-kept secrets if you want to avoid the madness of Patong or Kata. The beach here stretches for what feels like miles, and since it’s right next to the airport, you get these massive planes coming in low over the water – sounds annoying, but it’s actually kind of mesmerizing, especially during sunset.

What really got me about this place was how they’ve managed to feel intimate despite being fairly sprawling. The villas are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbors’ conversations through thin walls, and each one has this private pool situation that makes you feel like you’ve got your own little slice of paradise. The spa – well, I mean, I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas, but theirs actually knows what they’re doing. I had this traditional Thai massage that left me feeling like I’d been rebuilt from scratch, and the therapist didn’t just go through the motions like you sometimes get at resort places. The staff generally seems to get that balance between being attentive and not hovering, which honestly can make or break a stay.

Now, there are a few things worth knowing before you book. The location means you’re about a 20-minute drive from the main action in Phuket Town, so if you’re planning to bar-hop or hit the night markets regularly, factor in taxi costs or rent a scooter. But that isolation is also exactly why I’d go back – Maikhao Beach is where locals actually go when they want to escape the tourist crowds, and you can walk for ages without dodging jet skis or beach vendors. The resort’s restaurant does solid Thai food (their green curry actually has some heat to it), though I’d recommend venturing out to some of the local spots along the main road for more authentic flavors and better prices. Parking‘s never an issue if you do rent a car, and check-in was surprisingly smooth even though we arrived during that chaotic afternoon rush when half the resort seems to be coming and going. You know what really sealed it for me though? Waking up to the sound of waves instead of traffic, and having enough space around the pool that finding a quiet corner with a good book wasn’t a competitive sport.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Phuket at least three months ahead for major events like Loy Krathong and New Year celebrations, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near popular beaches and attractions.

  The property is stunning, We booked a 3 bedroom villa with a private pool and that completely exceeded all our expectations. This was the fag end of a long thailand trip and hence we wanted a villa to all stay together and relax together. And that the villa exceeded all our expectations – is an understatement. The living areas, the bedrooms, the outdoors were all stunning and we cant compliment it enough. The property does not offer much other but it does not require for it too, as one would not want to leave their own villa for long. Its connected to a nice quiet beach which we used to go for long walks on. The staff is also very helpful and kind. The Breakfast could also do with some better Variety

  The location is very peaceful loved the villas so spacious and luxurious we stated at the 2 bedroom. Beachfront villa .absolutely fantastic. The staff is very nice. But definitely service and the chk inn counter can be more warm .overall amazing.

  First off the villa is even bigger in person than the photos. It's massive. And when you book a 1 bedroom it's really 2 and they lock the second bedroom door. The 3 bedrooms are right behind you with less of a view. The private pool was nice and good size. It gets dirty often but the cleaning crew does an exceptional job cleaning it. So if you swim right after you're good. Other times questionable from both bugs and random deris from trees. Jacuzzi wasn't hot. I didn't care, but maybe there was a way to heat it up and I didn't notice. Seemed a bit dirty/stained anyway. But you had the tub inside so i didnt care. Outdoor space in general was huge and usable. Bed was pretty comfy. Some level of privacy from bedroom windows but pool windows let in all eyes and no way to fully close all shades there. Kitchen was fine and even had a wine chiller. Odd placement of microwave though. Bathroom was nice and tub was massive. Just a very odd sliding door for toilet and shower. Can't be closed at the same time. For a couple that's fine but for a family maybe not. It's right on a beach with very few people and a 10second walk to the sandy area with live music every night from a lovely singer. I never used the public pool but it looked big and nice. The cleaning service was a big giant team and they cleaned every little pine needle. They did a great job overall.

  The grounds are beautiful. The beachfront pool villa is fantastic. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The beach is very quiet and clean. Great location for a couple of days before flying since it’s near the airport. Wish we had stayed one more night.
