You know what surprised me most about Little Kamala Hill? It’s actually tucked away from the main beach chaos in a spot where you can still hear the waves but don’t have to deal with the constant stream of tuk-tuks and beach vendors right outside your door. I mean, when you’re looking at a three-star place in Phuket, you’re usually bracing yourself for either being stuck in the middle of tourist madness or so far out that you need a small loan to get anywhere decent.

The thing is, this place sits on this little hillside (hence the name, obviously) about a five-minute walk down to Kamala Beach proper. It’s one of those walks where you’re grateful going down but definitely feel it on the way back up – especially if you’ve had a few Chang beers at one of the beachside spots. The rooms are honestly pretty solid for what you’re paying. Nothing fancy, but they’re clean, the AC actually works (and you’ll need it), and most have these little balconies where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the motorbike ballet happening on the street below. I stayed in one of the higher-floor rooms and could actually catch a glimpse of the ocean between the palm trees, which felt like a bonus.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the area inside and out – not just the obvious tourist stuff, but where to get a proper Thai meal that won’t cost you resort prices, which massage places are actually good versus tourist traps, that sort of thing. The front desk guy (wish I remembered his name) steered me toward this little local spot up the hill that served the best som tam I had during my entire trip. Honestly, those kinds of recommendations are worth their weight in gold when you’re trying to experience more than just the sanitized tourist version of Thailand. The pool area is small but gets the job done, and it’s usually pretty quiet during the day since most people head straight to the beach. Parking can be a bit tight if you rent a car, but let’s be real – you’re probably getting around by scooter or taxi anyway. It’s not going to win any design awards, and the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours, but for a three-star place that puts you within easy reach of both the beach scene and some authentic local experiences, Little Kamala Hill delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.

  The property was big, nice and modern as you can tell it is new. Quiet location and they had some friendly cute cats which lifted the mood

  Tolle und ruhige Lage. Man braucht zwar einen Roller aber es ist am Abend absolut ruhig. Sehr schöner Pool.
  Das Bett ist sehr bequem mit ausreichend Steckdosen.
  Die Unterkunft ist eine Mischung aus Hotel und Ferienwohnung. Aber beides nicht richtig. Ich denke wenn das Profil klarer ist, kann man dort wundervoll übernachten.

  Alle waren sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Zimmer ist sauber und die Lage ist sehr ruhig. Mit dem Roller ist man innerhalb 10 min am kamala beach.

  Prostredie bolo krasne. Vyhlad z izby na bazen uzasny! Kludne prostredie, vzdialenejsie od mora. Bez motorky, alebo taxi sa nepohnete. Prve 2 noci to bolo super, izba je velmi priestranna, presvetlena, krasna, cista! Dalsie 2 rana vsak boli velmi neprijemne, kedze po splachnuti susedov nad nami nam vybuchol zachod z ich exkrementami do zachoda. Personal bol velmi napomocny, ponukol WC v inej izbe a my sme stravili cely den pri mori. Po prichode bolo WC o.k. izba upratana, ale na druhy den rano sa to zopakovalo opat a kedze to bol den nasho odletu domov a chceli sme si na izbe oddychnut co najdlhsie, museli sme izbu, kvoli neznesitelnemu zapachu opustit skor. Prvy dojem uzasny, odchod rozpacity. Vzhladom k moznostiam v Thajsku a vytvorenej kanalizacii, to vsak nedavam za vinu ubytujucemu, ktoremu to bolo urcote taktiez neprijemne. Napriek pisomnym upozorneniam na WC niektori neprisposobivy turisti,v nasom pripade bezohladne a hlucne turistky z USA, byvajuce nad nami, ktore hadzali toaletny papier do WC, nam tymto sposobom zneprijemnili nas pobyt v inac peknom prostredi. Vzhladom k cene ubytovania si vsak myslim, ze take nieco by sa stat nemalo. I
