I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Layalina Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much based on the somewhat understated exterior. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about how great they are. This four-star property has that kind of quiet confidence that actually makes you feel more relaxed the moment you step inside.

The lobby has this warm, welcoming vibe that immediately tells you the staff actually cares about what they’re doing. I mean, you can usually tell within the first five minutes of checking in whether a place is going to take care of you, and these folks definitely do. The front desk team – and I’m not just saying this – genuinely seemed interested in making sure I had everything I needed. No rushing through the check-in process, no robotic responses to questions. They took the time to explain the neighborhood, which honestly saved me from wandering around lost later that evening.

What really impressed me was how well-maintained everything felt without being sterile or overly formal. The rooms strike that perfect balance between comfortable and clean – you know, the kind of place where you don’t feel like you’re going to get in trouble for actually using the nice towels. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff), and the bathrooms are spacious enough that you’re not bumping into everything when you’re trying to get ready in the morning. Little touches like having enough outlets near the bed and decent water pressure make all the difference when you’re traveling. The soundproofing is pretty solid too, which you’ll appreciate if you’re a light sleeper like I am.

The breakfast situation is actually quite good – not just the usual sad continental spread, but proper options that change daily. I found myself looking forward to it each morning, which doesn’t happen often. The dining area gets busy around 8:30, so if you want a quieter experience, aim for earlier or later. The staff keeps everything well-stocked and fresh, and there’s usually someone around who can make recommendations if you’re not sure what to try.

Location-wise, you’re well-positioned without being right in the chaos of everything. It’s walkable to most places you’d want to go, but the immediate area stays relatively quiet, especially in the evenings. Parking isn’t a nightmare if you’re driving, though I’d recommend asking about it when you book since spaces can fill up during busier periods.

The whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Like they’ve figured out how to run a hotel properly without making it feel like a production. The 8.7 rating it has earned makes complete sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not trying to be flashy or revolutionary, it’s just consistently doing the important things well. For the price point, you’re getting solid value and the kind of service that makes you want to come back next time you’re in the area.

  The staff were kind and accommodating and the aircon was a wonderful reprive from the heat. The location couldn’t be better and I would recommend Layalina to anyone heading to Kamala beach.

  What a little gem! Beautifully located right on the beach, with fantastic sea views from all the rooms. We chose a duplex with our own roof terrace, where we did yoga every day.
  Our room was spacious and clean with a lovely jacuzzi bath. The staff were all very friendly and we really enjoyed our stay.
  Kamala Beach is also a great choice to base yourself when in Phuket. Pretty and with lots of facilities but quieter than many of the more touristy beaches.

  The property is a great location within the tiny beach town of Kamala. The pool was very small very noisy a lot of smokers and no view from in the pool. Not enough sunbeds to enjoy the sun. Walking distance to dive shops and restaurants as well as cannibas cafes. A great location overall

  Our room was beautiful, with excellent views of the beach, including from the rooftop area.
  Great location (pretty quiet at night after 10.30pm), except Christmas Eve when there seemed to be an event on in a nearby property. Right on the beach and close to everything.
  Staff were nice and friendly – lovely touches like a welcome drink and cold towel on arrival.
  Jacuzzi bath was great.
