You know what caught me off guard about Laguna Villa? I walked in expecting your typical four-star resort experience, but this place actually feels more like staying at someone’s incredibly well-appointed beach house – if that someone happens to have impeccable taste and a serious budget for upgrades. The lobby doesn’t scream “hotel” at you with marble everywhere and stiff furniture. Instead, there’s this relaxed elegance thing going on with local artwork that actually looks like it was chosen by a person, not a corporate decorator.

I mean, the rooms are where this place really wins you over. The bathroom situation alone – honestly, I spent way too much time in there just because the shower setup is ridiculous in the best way possible. Rain shower head, perfect water pressure, and they’ve got these locally made soaps that smell like something between coconut and jasmine without being overpowering. The beds are firm enough that you’re not sinking into quicksand but soft enough that I legitimately overslept twice (which never happens to me). What I really appreciated was the balcony space – not some tiny afterthought with two plastic chairs, but actual room to spread out with your coffee in the morning or a drink at sunset.

The staff here gets it right without being hover-y about it. Check-in was smooth, they remembered my name without making it weird, and when I mentioned I was looking for good snorkeling spots, the front desk guy – Carlos, I think – actually drew me a little map with his personal recommendations rather than just pointing me toward the tourist traps. The pool area stays surprisingly chill even during busy periods, probably because it’s designed with these little nooks and sections so you’re not all crammed together. Food’s solid too – the breakfast spread has the usual suspects but also some local specialties that change daily, and their evening cocktails are strong enough to matter without being college-party ridiculous. Look, it’s not the cheapest option around, but you’re getting what you pay for here. This is the kind of place where small details actually work the way they’re supposed to, and you leave feeling like you had a proper vacation rather than just a change of scenery.
