You know what caught me off guard about Kamala Hills Serviced Apartments? I was expecting just another basic serviced apartment setup, but this place actually has some character to it. It’s perched up in the hills above Kamala Beach – and I mean properly up there, so you’ll definitely want to rent a scooter or be prepared for some serious uphill walks if you’re planning to head down to the beach regularly.

The three-star rating is pretty spot-on, honestly. It’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works and feels clean. The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious – I had a one-bedroom unit that actually felt like someone’s home rather than a sterile hotel room. The kitchen was properly equipped too, which was great because there’s a little local market about a five-minute walk down the hill where you can grab fresh ingredients. The air conditioning works well (crucial in that humidity), though it can be a bit noisy at night if you’re a light sleeper. I actually ended up loving the sounds from outside though – you get this mix of tropical birds in the morning and the distant hum of the beach below.

What really makes this place work is the location, even if it means a bit of a trek. You’re far enough from the main Kamala strip that it’s genuinely quiet – none of that bar noise that drifts up from the beach road – but close enough that you can still walk down for dinner or drinks. The views from some of the units are honestly incredible, especially at sunset. I mean, you’re looking out over the whole Kamala Bay area, and on clear days you can see the headlands stretching north. The pool area is pretty small but rarely crowded, and there’s something nice about having a swim while looking out over all that greenery. The staff are friendly enough and speak decent English, though don’t expect concierge-level service – this is more of a “here are your keys, let us know if anything breaks” kind of place. Parking isn’t an issue if you’re renting a bike or car, which I’d definitely recommend. The road up can be a bit steep and winding, but it’s perfectly manageable. For the price point, especially if you’re staying more than just a few nights, it’s actually solid value – you get proper living space, a kitchen to save money on meals, and that elevated setting that feels more peaceful than most places in the area.
