When I first pulled up to Kamala Beach Estate Resort – SHA Extra Plus, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name — it’s quite a mouthful. But you know what? Here’s the thing about Kamala Beach — it’s sort of the sweet spot on Phuket’s west coast. You’re close enough to Patong if you want the nightlife chaos (about 15 minutes by taxi), but Kamala itself stays pretty mellow. The beach is literally a five-minute walk downhill, and I mean literally — I timed it. What I love is that you can actually hear the waves from some parts of the resort, which beats the sound of motorbikes that you get at busier spots. The local seafood restaurants along the beach road are fantastic, especially the smaller family-run places that most tourists walk right past.

The Room Experience

My room had this lovely terrace that looked out toward the Andaman Sea — well, you could see it through the palm trees anyway. The space felt generous without being overwhelming, and the air conditioning actually worked properly (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case). The bathroom was modern and clean, though nothing too fancy. What really impressed me was the attention to small details — good water pressure, plenty of outlets, and blackout curtains that actually block out the morning sun when you want to sleep in.

The resort’s main restaurant serves a solid mix of Thai and international dishes, though honestly, I found myself eating out most nights just because Kamala has such great local options. Breakfast was included in my rate and had everything you’d want — fresh tropical fruit, decent coffee, and both Western and Asian choices. The pool area is where this place really shines, actually. It’s got multiple levels that follow the natural slope of the land, and there are plenty of quiet corners where you can escape with a book. The spa treatments are reasonably priced too, which is always a pleasant surprise.

What strikes me most about this resort is how it manages to feel both relaxed and well-run at the same time. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay comfortable without being overly formal about it. Couples especially seem to gravitate toward this place — I can see why, given the peaceful setting and romantic sunset views from the upper terraces. The parking situation is hassle-free if you’re renting a car, and the location gives you that perfect balance of tranquility and accessibility. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the island, but it delivers exactly what it promises with a smile.

  We were greeted by Danie and Sumer by name welcoming us as soon as we got out of our cab with a water and fresh towel.
  
  The landscaping was beautiful. This was towards the end of a 3 week holiday and after the craziness of the other cities we visited this relaxing oasis was just what we needed. We laid around the pool in the morning and then walked into town in the afternoons and it was perfect. White at the hotel but close enough to walk to whatever we needed.

  Great location. Quiet and aware from the noisy shops, but a really easy walk to restaurants supermarkets and the beach. Staff were responsive and helpful to our requests. Comfy apartments with a nice outlook. Rooms are actually nicer than they look in the pictures.

  We loved the location and the overall look off the property. The room was clean and tidy. The beach was great and the pools too. It was quiet which is what we wanted. No loud music, screaming kids etc. the staff were very friendly and helpful. They were a 10 out of 10. Lovely people. We had a very comfortable stay and would return.
