You know what caught me off guard about HOMA Phuket Town? I was expecting another cookie-cutter hotel, but this place actually has some personality. It’s right in the heart of Phuket Town’s old quarter – I mean, you’re literally walking distance from those colorful Sino-Portuguese shophouses and the weekend walking street market. The location alone makes it worth considering, honestly.

The whole vibe is this interesting mix of contemporary design with subtle nods to local culture, which I appreciate because so many places either go full tourist kitsch or completely ignore where they are. The rooms are genuinely spacious (rare for this price point in Phuket), and I loved the little touches like locally-inspired artwork and these surprisingly comfortable beds. The bathroom situation is solid too – good water pressure, which you can’t always count on. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays despite being in town. I was worried about street noise, but the windows do their job well, and the AC doesn’t sound like a jet engine.

The staff deserves a mention here because they actually seem to know the area beyond just the typical tourist spots. When I asked about good local eats, they pointed me toward this incredible dim sum place that locals hit up for weekend brunch – definitely not something you’d find in a guidebook. The four-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be ultra-luxury, but everything works properly and there’s genuine attention to detail. Breakfast is better than expected with some Thai options mixed in with the usual international stuff. One small thing – the pool area is nice but gets pretty busy during peak season, so if you’re planning a December visit, don’t expect to have it to yourself. But honestly, you’ll probably be out exploring anyway since you’re positioned perfectly to wander through the old town’s temples, grab coffee at one of those hip local roasters, or catch a songthaew to the beaches when you need that sand-and-surf fix.
