I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket Karon Beach, an IHG Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much. You know how chain hotels can be, especially when they’re planted right on prime beachfront real estate. But this four-star place actually surprised me in ways I didn’t see coming.

The thing about Karon Beach is that it’s got this sweet spot vibe – not as crazy busy as Patong (thank god), but still with enough happening that you won’t get bored. The hotel sits pretty much where you’d want it to, maybe a two-minute walk to the sand, and honestly the beach here is gorgeous. Wide, clean, and the waves are just right for bodysurfing if you’re into that. What I really appreciated was how the resort doesn’t try to trap you inside like some of these places do. You can easily wander down to the local seafood spots along the beach road, or grab a proper Thai massage from one of the ladies who set up shop under the casuarina trees – way better prices than the hotel spa, obviously.

The rooms are solid Holiday Inn standard, which means they’re clean and functional without any fancy surprises. I mean, the AC works great (crucial in Phuket), the shower pressure is decent, and you get that reliable hotel WiFi that actually loads your Netflix. The pool area is where this place really shines though – it’s this sprawling setup with different levels and plenty of spots to claim a lounger even during high season. I spent most afternoons there with a Chang beer, watching families with kids splash around in the shallow end while I caught up on reading. The staff at the pool bar actually remember your drink order after a day or two, which is a nice touch. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge design or anything, but sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well. The breakfast buffet has a good mix of Western and Thai options – their pad thai is surprisingly authentic, and they make decent pancakes for the kids. Just avoid the peak breakfast rush around 8:30 if you can, because tour groups descend like locusts. Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable base to explore the island without breaking the bank on some boutique place, this Holiday Inn delivers exactly what it promises.

  the staff was very friendly and always helpful – starting with serving my wish for a nice and rather quiet Room, and offering the opportunity to stay at the Pool on the day of departure after Check out, as well as providing a shower Room; a great Service for the guests !

  Nice hotel and lovely staff. The room was a decent size and the bed was big and comfortable. In general, other than the location of the hotel being a big odd and the private pool being dirty, everything else was very enjoyable
