Grand Mercure Phuket Patong Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Grand Mercure Phuket Patong, I wasn’t expecting much. You know how it is with Phuket hotels these days, especially around Patong where everything feels a bit overdeveloped. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.
The thing about this five-star property is that it manages to feel genuinely upscale without being stuffy about it. I mean, you’re still in the heart of Patong – you can literally hear the buzz from Bangla Road if you listen hard enough – but somehow they’ve created this little bubble of calm. The lobby has this cool, modern vibe with lots of natural light, and the staff actually seemed happy to see me (not always a given in tourist-heavy areas like this). What really caught my attention was how they’ve designed the place – it’s got these clean lines and contemporary touches that feel fresh, not like they’re trying too hard to scream “luxury resort.”
The rooms are where this place really shines, honestly. Mine had this gorgeous view that stretched out toward the Andaman Sea, and I spent way too much time just sitting on the balcony watching the chaos of Patong Beach unfold below. The bed was one of those cloud-like situations where you sink in just enough, and the bathroom – well, let’s just say the rainfall shower was perfect after a day of exploring the local markets and getting caught in that typical afternoon downpour. You know what impressed me most though? The little details. Fresh fruit that was actually fresh, blackout curtains that worked properly, and air conditioning that didn’t sound like a jet engine taking off.
Location-wise, you’re right in the thick of things but not overwhelmed by it. Patong Beach is basically at your doorstep – maybe a three-minute walk through the hotel’s front entrance and you’re feeling sand between your toes. If you want to venture out for some authentic Thai food (skip the hotel restaurant for dinner, trust me), there are these amazing little local spots tucked away in the side streets just behind Rat-U-Thit Road that most tourists never find. The hotel’s concierge actually gave me solid recommendations, which was refreshing. And honestly, being this central means you can easily grab a tuk-tuk to explore other parts of the island – Old Phuket Town is maybe twenty minutes away and totally worth the trip for the street art and coffee shops.
What sealed it for me was the pool area. It’s not massive, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the afternoon breeze, and there’s something really satisfying about taking a dip while watching the organized chaos of Patong life happening just beyond the hotel grounds. The whole experience felt balanced – you get that tropical resort feeling without being completely disconnected from the actual energy of Thailand. Plus, with an 8.3 rating from other travelers, I wasn’t the only one who left feeling like I’d stumbled onto something good.

Our second stay at this hotel. First time was just before covid. Really well located hotel, opposite Otop, short walk to Juncelyon and Bangla and beach. Not too big, so easy to navigate. Quiet. Comfortable beds. Good buffet breakfast, all that you'd expect from a hotel of this standard.
