I’ll be honest, Duangjai Residence wasn’t on my radar until a friend who travels constantly through Thailand recommended it to me. You know what struck me first? The name itself – “Duangjai” means “as the heart desires” in Thai, and honestly, that’s not just clever marketing speak here.

This three-star place has this really refreshing approach where they’ve focused on getting the essentials absolutely right instead of trying to be everything to everyone. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feel – not sterile like so many mid-range hotels. There’s usually some soft Thai instrumental music playing, and I noticed they actually change the playlist throughout the day, which sounds minor but creates this nice rhythm to the space. The staff genuinely seems to enjoy working there, which you can tell within about five minutes of walking in. During my stay, the front desk guy remembered I preferred my coffee black without me having to ask twice, and he gave me solid recommendations for local spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.

The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully simple – clean lines, decent space, and everything actually works properly. The beds are surprisingly comfortable for this price point, and they’ve got blackout curtains that’ll let you sleep until noon if that’s your thing. What really impressed me was the attention to small details: proper reading lights, enough outlets in useful spots, and a bathroom setup that doesn’t require you to flood the entire floor when you shower. The AC runs quietly – important in this climate – and they’ve managed to avoid that musty smell that haunts so many budget-friendly places in humid areas. I mean, for a three-star property, they’re definitely punching above their weight in terms of maintenance and cleanliness. The Wi-Fi actually reaches every corner of the building and runs fast enough for video calls, which honestly puts some four-star places I’ve stayed to shame. There’s something to be said for a place that focuses on executing the basics flawlessly rather than adding flashy amenities that half-work. With an 8.5 rating from actual guests, you can tell this isn’t just my experience – they’ve figured out that consistent quality beats fancy facades every time.

  Especially Peach the main receptionist, and all the cleaning ladies were very friendly and mindful of our sleeping patterns as not to disturb us at all when we had a late night.
