You know what? Chez Charly Bungalow isn’t the kind of place you’d stumble upon by accident, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star spot feels more like staying at your eccentric uncle’s tropical hideaway than a traditional hotel – and I mean that in the best possible way. The moment you walk up to these scattered bungalows, you get this immediate sense that someone actually lives here and cares about the details. Charly himself (yes, there really is a Charly) has this way of greeting guests like he’s genuinely happy to see them, not just checking names off a list.

The bungalows themselves are quirky in all the right ways – each one feels slightly different, with hand-picked furniture that somehow works together despite probably coming from completely different decades. My room had this amazing vintage rattan chair that I practically lived in during my stay, and the bathroom featured one of those rainfall showers that actually delivers on the promise. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, which you don’t always get at smaller places like this. What really got me though was the attention to small things – fresh flowers that get replaced regularly, locally-made soaps that smell incredible, and these little handwritten notes with recommendations for nearby spots that clearly aren’t just copied from a tourism brochure.

The whole setup encourages you to slow down, which is something I didn’t realize I needed until I was there. Mornings start with coffee served in actual ceramic mugs (not those tiny hotel cups), and you’ll find yourself lingering longer than planned just watching the day unfold. There’s this communal feel without being intrusive – other guests tend to chat casually by the pool or share travel stories over breakfast, but nobody’s forcing conversation if you’re not in the mood. The 8.9 rating this place gets makes complete sense once you spend a night or two there. It’s not luxury in the marble-and-gold sense, but it’s the kind of place where everything just works and you feel genuinely welcomed rather than processed. I actually found myself extending my stay, which rarely happens to me anywhere.

  The rooms (lower Bungalows) were nice and cool, everything was in place and we especially loved the many Palm trees, green bushes and flowers which made the place shady and calm. We will definitely come back to Charly's again when we are around Nai Yang.

  Such a lovely spot with the friendliest service. We only explored a bit of the surrounding area. It’s a 15-20 minute walk to the beach from here. Very close to the airport (about a ten minute ride), but I don’t remember hearing any landing planes while we were there.
