I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Centara Kata Resort Phuket, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The four-star rating had me thinking it might be one of those places that tries too hard, but actually, it turned out to be exactly the opposite. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about this place that I really appreciated.

The location is what really sold me on this spot. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Kata Beach, which honestly beats staying right on the sand because you avoid all that beachfront chaos but still get there easily. I mean, Kata itself is already way more chill than Patong – you know what I’m talking about if you’ve been to Phuket before. The resort sits on this little hill, so you get these glimpses of the Andaman Sea from some of the rooms, though don’t expect full panoramic views unless you specifically book one of the higher-tier rooms. The pool area is where I spent most of my mornings actually – it’s this multi-level setup that feels way more spacious than it looks in photos, with enough quiet corners that you can always find a spot even when things get busy around lunchtime.

What struck me most was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. Like, when I asked about getting to the Big Buddha (which you absolutely should do), the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a tourist map – he sketched out this back route that cuts through local neighborhoods and saves you from sitting in traffic on the main road. The rooms themselves are solid without being flashy – clean lines, decent air conditioning that actually works, and those little touches like proper water pressure in the shower that matter more than fancy amenities when you’re sandy and tired from the beach. The breakfast spread is pretty typical Thai hotel fare, but they make a surprisingly good pad thai at the poolside grill, and the mango sticky rice there rivals what I’ve had at street stalls. I did notice the wifi gets a bit spotty in the evenings when everyone’s back from the beach, but honestly, that might not be the worst thing for a vacation. The 8.0 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that doesn’t try to wow you with over-the-top luxury, but instead just gets all the basics really right, which is exactly what you want when you’re using your hotel as a base to explore rather than as the main attraction itself.

  The hotel in itself its very nice. I mostly have only positive things to say. Very nice breakfast and nice pool areas. Nice staff and drinks. Rooms veru spaceius and bed was very good.

  Kla in the bar was excellent. He was very friendly and funny.

  The wide variety of the international and local options on the menus and breakfast buffet
  Drinks were good quality – we also enjoyed the slushie options that weren’t there went we visited in 2024.
  Air con was excellent
  Loved the free shuttle to the beach- this is a real draw card for tourists like our family
  We felt safe and secluded once we entered the Centara driveway
  The side of the fridge in the apartment was great.
