But this five-star place actually caught me off guard in the best way possible. The thing that hit me immediately was how they’ve managed to feel both grand and somehow intimate at the same time, which is honestly pretty rare for a resort this size in Phuket.

You’re right on Karon Beach, which is already fantastic, but the resort has this prime stretch that’s never stupidly crowded like some of the other spots. The sand is that soft, squeaky kind that actually makes you want to walk barefoot everywhere. I spent way too much time just watching the longtail boats drift by in the morning – there’s something oddly hypnotic about it when you’re nursing your first coffee of the day. The pools are another story entirely; they’ve got this lagoon-style setup that winds through the property, and honestly, some days I preferred it to the ocean. The water temperature is perfect, and there are these little hidden spots where you can actually read a book without someone’s kids doing cannonballs three feet away.

The rooms – well, let me just say they clearly know what they’re doing. Everything feels fresh and modern without being cold or sterile, you know? The balconies are generous (not those tiny afterthought things you get at some places), and if you can swing an ocean view, do it. Trust me on this one. The air conditioning actually works properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess that up in Thailand’s heat. Food-wise, they’ve got multiple restaurants, and while resort food can be hit or miss, their Thai restaurant is legitimately good – I mean, locals-would-eat-here good, not just tourist-friendly bland stuff. The breakfast buffet is pretty extensive too, though it gets busy around 8 AM when all the tour groups descend. Staff throughout the property seems genuinely happy to help, not just going through the motions, which makes a bigger difference than you’d think when you’re trying to relax. Location-wise, you’re close enough to Kata and the main Patong action if you want nightlife, but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night. The resort runs shuttle service, or you can grab a tuk-tuk easily enough – just negotiate the price first, obviously.

  We enjoyed our stay in Centara Grand. The location was great. The staff was very helpful. The hotel area was amazing, we had a lot of walks opening new places. The children even we adults enjoyed the lazy river. We enjoyed our holiday.

  Beach was glorious, clear water, clean beach, soft sand. Pool facilities were fun and varied, with great children's activities provided by two hosts who organised games and fun. Room was functional and big. I did not like the balcony aspects of the surrounding rooms because many of the guests had no consideration for other guests, swimming in their pools and having parties on their outside space often til 2 and 3 a.m., and there was little sound attenuation into the bedrooms.

  The room and facilities were nice. Nice location, not far from Karon and Kata beach areas. In room dining options were also nice and tasty. Hotel looks amazing at night time, when the pink coloured building and lighting come alive. Buffet breakfast was nice. Staff/management were accommodating with requests and attempted to make amends when our room was not ready at the specified time.
