The balcony in my room looked out over this mix of local rooftops and palm trees, giving me glimpses of real Thai life happening below rather than just another pool scene. Sometimes in the early morning, you can hear the distant sounds of the local market coming to life, which I found oddly comforting.

The location is actually brilliant if you know how to work it. Sure, you’re not stumbling directly onto Patong Beach, but you’re close enough to everything without dealing with the constant noise and crowds. There’s this little local restaurant about a two-minute walk away where I had some of the best pad thai of my entire trip – the kind of place you’d never find if you stayed in the heart of the tourist zone. The hotel staff pointed me toward it, along with this fantastic little coffee shop that opens ridiculously early for those of us who can’t function without proper caffeine. Getting to the main beaches takes maybe 10 minutes by taxi, and the drivers the hotel calls are reliable and don’t try to take you on scenic route detours to jack up the fare. Parking was never an issue when I rented a scooter for a couple days, which can’t be said for a lot of places around here. With a 9.2 rating, Casa Bella clearly knows what it’s doing – it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Phuket rather than just visiting it.
