You know what caught me off guard about By The Sea? It’s actually one of those places that doesn’t try too hard to impress you with fancy lobbies or over-the-top amenities, but somehow ends up being exactly what you need for a proper seaside getaway. I mean, the name pretty much tells you everything – this three-star spot really is right by the water, and honestly, that’s half the charm right there.

The thing is, I’ve stayed at plenty of coastal hotels that promise ocean views and deliver a sliver of blue if you crane your neck just right from the bathroom window. This place is different – most rooms actually face the sea, and you can hear the waves from your bed. Not in an annoying way that keeps you up (though if you’re sensitive to sound, maybe pack earplugs for stormy nights), but in that rhythmic, almost hypnotic way that makes you sleep better than you have in months. The rooms themselves are pretty straightforward – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, nothing revolutionary but everything works. I particularly appreciated that the windows actually open properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places have those tiny security latches that barely let in any fresh air.

What really makes this place work is the location and the vibe. The staff seems genuinely happy to be there, which isn’t something you can fake – check-in was smooth, they knew the area well enough to give solid restaurant recommendations (not just the touristy spots), and housekeeping was thorough without being intrusive. The common areas have this lived-in feel that’s relaxing rather than tired, if that makes sense. There’s a small terrace where people actually hang out in the evenings, and I found myself chatting with other guests more than I usually would. Parking can be a bit tight during peak season – there’s a small lot but it fills up fast, so arriving early in the day definitely helps. The breakfast is simple but fresh, with local touches that show someone’s actually thinking about what they’re serving rather than just opening industrial-sized containers. With an 8.6 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why – sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well without any fuss, somewhere you can fall asleep to ocean sounds and wake up to salt air. It’s not luxury, but it’s genuine seaside hospitality, and there’s something to be said for that.

  The apartments are very spacious and comfortable! Breakfast is simple, but all you need with a nice view over the beach. There is a nice cafe up the hill, a cheap restaurant 10mns walk on the beach that serves delicious food – so we were very happy! We enjoyed our stay! Would come back!
