Big Buddha Hillside Hotel Overview

First Impressions

The Big Buddha Hillside Hotel sits tucked away on a quiet side street in Phuket Town, and honestly, you might drive right past it if you’re not paying attention. It’s one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention from the street — which I actually found refreshing after dealing with all the flashy resorts along the beaches. The entrance is modest, but once you step inside this three-star property, there’s something immediately welcoming about the atmosphere. The lobby has this relaxed, no-fuss vibe that tells you they’re more focused on comfort than impressing you with marble floors.

Location & Getting Around

You know what’s great about staying in Phuket Town instead of the beach areas? You get to see how locals actually live, and the Big Buddha Hillside Hotel puts you right in the middle of it all. The hotel is positioned on Chaofa West Road, which means you’re close enough to the old town’s colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings — maybe a 10-minute drive — but far enough away to avoid the tourist crowds. The Big Buddha statue (hence the name) is actually visible from some parts of the hotel, and it’s only about 15 minutes up the hill if you want to visit. Plus, there’s parking right on-site, which is honestly a godsend in this area where finding a spot can be a real headache.

The Room Experience

My room was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed in Thailand. The air conditioning was strong (crucial in this climate), and the bed was surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range hotel. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure in the shower. What I appreciated most was how quiet it was at night — being on that side street really pays off when you’re trying to sleep. The WiFi worked well throughout the property, which matters if you need to stay connected.

Dining & Local Eats

The hotel has a small restaurant that serves basic Thai and international dishes, but I’ll be honest — the real draw is being so close to authentic local food. There’s a fantastic morning market just a few minutes away where you can grab fresh fruit and local snacks for practically nothing. In the evenings, I found myself walking to the nearby street food stalls rather than eating at the hotel. The staff was helpful in pointing out their favorite spots, which I mean, that’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a guidebook.

Why Guests Love It

This place really shines for couples looking for a peaceful base to explore Phuket without the beach resort chaos. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting for the price — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, just solid accommodation in a good location. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you have what you need, and there’s something to be said for that personal touch. If you’re the type who wants to experience more of the real Thailand rather than staying in a tourist bubble, the Big Buddha Hillside Hotel delivers exactly that experience.

  • Jasna from Serbia (7/10)

My recent stay at this hotel was a mixed experience, resulting in a 7/10 rating. While there were some positive aspects, a notable issue with housekeeping left me somewhat dissatisfied.

On the positive side, the hotel's location was convenient, around 1 km from first 7-Eleven and at the same place is a bus waiting point. The staff was generally friendly and accommodating.

View from the room was incredible and the pool was great and quite clean.

Room is big and there is a lot of space for bags and even more. Bathroom is also pretty big, even tho a curtain would fit nicely because this way the water goes everywhere.

They’re almost filthy mould on the wall. Mattress stains on it not very good was it? In the toilet a piece of metal hanging out of the wall, I cut my leg on it when I sat on the toilet.

Primerament, tenir la piscina a peu d’habitació; no està massificada i pots estar-hi tranquil.lament.
Disposava d’una planxa de roba + servei d’aigua gratuït i cafè cada dia.
    És un hotel tranquil.
La piscina és molt maca, es nota que està molt ben cuidada.
