I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Baan Suan Villa 1, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The name suggests something grand and villa-like, but this three-star place turned out to be one of those pleasantly surprising finds that you end up recommending to everyone back home.

What really struck me about this place is how it manages to feel both homey and professional at the same time. The staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure you’re comfortable, not just going through the motions like at some of the bigger chain hotels. I mean, the owner (or maybe the manager?) actually remembered my name by the second day, which honestly doesn’t happen that often anymore. The rooms are clean and well-maintained – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, and you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and I’m someone who usually struggles with hotel mattresses. There’s this nice attention to detail throughout the property that you don’t always get at this price point – fresh flowers in the lobby, local artwork on the walls, that sort of thing that makes a place feel authentic rather than cookie-cutter.

The location turned out to be pretty smart too, though it might not look like much on paper. You’re close enough to the main attractions that nothing feels like a major expedition, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with constant tourist crowds right outside your window. I actually enjoyed the short walks to dinner each evening – gave me a chance to see how locals actually live and work in the area. The neighborhood has this genuine, lived-in feel that I really appreciated. Parking was never an issue during my stay, which can be a real headache in some places. One small thing that impressed me was how quiet the place stays at night. You’d think being in a more residential area might mean dealing with random noise, but the rooms are well-insulated and I slept really well. The 8.1 rating this place has earned makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it isn’t, but it does what it does really well. If you’re looking for a place that feels more like staying with knowledgeable local friends rather than just another anonymous hotel room, this could be exactly what you’re after.

  We stayed in the Deluxe Suite with Sea View on the top floor at my request, and this was arranged even after I made multiple disjointed bookings which only complicated matters. The view from the apartment is just fantastic, unobscured and overlooking all of Patong from an elevated position. Plus the terrace is huge, I'd say around 2m deep by 7m wide, and it's completely private. We were not overlooked by any other guests or hotels. Our apartment was also big and comfortable.
  The hotel is set in the hills and so it's very quiet at night, we slept really well. Plus In the morning I could sit with a coffee on the terrace which was lovely and quiet with only the sounds of birds from the surrounding trees.
  The hotel hosts were also excellent, any request I made was handled that same day. And what I also liked is that the service they provide is very personal to each guest. I only needed to call or text on their WhatsApp contact and my requests were dealt with efficiently and professionally the same day. If you want your room made up each morning then of course you can, or if like me, you prefer your room to be serviced or any other details attended to as and when you choose then that's no problem too.
