Baan Mai Khao sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to the action if you want it (the airport’s literally minutes away, which is either perfect or slightly annoying depending on your tolerance for plane noise), but far enough from Patong’s chaos that you can actually hear the waves at night. I stayed here during shoulder season and the staff ratio felt really good – like they had time to remember your name and actually meant it when they asked how your day was going. The 8.1 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place on the island, but everything just works the way it should.

What really sold me was the attention to small stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The shower pressure was solid (trust me, this isn’t a given), the AC didn’t sound like a freight train, and – this might sound weird – but the Wi-Fi reached the pool area without cutting out every five minutes. The breakfast setup was more thoughtful than flashy, with actual local fruit that wasn’t just pineapple and watermelon, and they didn’t give you that look when you showed up at 9:45 for the 10 AM cutoff. The pool area gets this perfect afternoon breeze that the locals call “lom yen,” and you’ll find yourself lingering there longer than planned. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with other guests naturally – maybe because it attracts people who chose it for the right reasons rather than just booking the first thing that popped up online. If you’re the type who wants to experience Phuket without feeling like you’re in a theme park version of Thailand, Baan Mai Khao delivers exactly that vibe.

  The facilities are very nice, very clean and well managed! Lots of different pools.The appartment itself was perfect also, we had no issue checking in at all. The beach is amazing, huge and wild with very little people. The next door backpacking style place has a very chill and nice vibe also, perfect for dinner and/or drinks. For shopping, including for groceries, there is a shuttle to Turtle village where you can find everything ranging from restaurants to shops, pharmacy and supermarket
