Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first pulled up to Baan Karon Resort, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages, and this little gem on Phuket really caught me off guard in the best way possible.

The thing about Karon Beach is that it’s sort of the middle child of Phuket’s west coast beaches – not as wild as Patong, but way more happening than the sleepy southern spots. Baan Karon sits right in that sweet spot where you can actually hear the waves at night instead of thumping bass from beach bars. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty to do around here, but it’s got this more laid-back vibe that honestly made me sleep better than I have at some fancy five-star places. The resort itself feels very Thai in the best sense – lots of natural wood, traditional touches without being kitschy about it, and staff who actually seem to enjoy their jobs rather than just going through the motions.

What really won me over was the attention to small details that you don’t usually find at this price point. The pool area has these little nooks where you can escape the afternoon sun (trust me, you’ll want them around 2 PM), and there’s this subtle sound of water features that drowns out any street noise from the main road. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works and the air conditioning is actually quiet, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed. The breakfast spread is pretty decent too, with a good mix of Western and Thai options, though I’d skip the bacon and stick with the fresh fruit and local dishes. Walking to the beach takes maybe five minutes, and once you’re there, you’ve got that gorgeous stretch of sand that’s wide enough to find your own space even during peak season. Actually, I found the whole experience so relaxing that I ended up extending my stay by two days – something I rarely do because, you know, travel budgets and all that. For what you’re paying, Baan Karon delivers way more than it promises, and in a world full of hotels that do the opposite, that’s pretty refreshing.

  The rooms are spacious & clean. We booked a family bunk room which the kids loved & the 'outdoor' shower area was very unique & actually very good as it kept the water out of the main room!
