Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, I thought my taxi driver had gotten lost. We’d been driving through what felt like endless palm groves on the northwestern tip of Phuket, and suddenly there it was, tucked away like some well-kept secret. The entrance alone made me realize this wasn’t going to be your typical beach resort experience.
What struck me immediately was how this five-star property manages to feel both incredibly luxurious and surprisingly intimate at the same time. The villas – and I mean actual villas, not hotel rooms masquerading as suites – are scattered across the property with enough space between them that you genuinely forget other people exist. I stayed in one of the pool villas (honestly, after seeing the private infinity pool overlooking those rice paddies, I couldn’t imagine staying anywhere else), and the whole setup felt more like borrowing a wealthy friend’s vacation home than checking into a hotel. The Thai pavilion-style architecture isn’t just for show either – those high ceilings and open-air designs actually work wonders in the tropical heat, creating these lovely cross-breezes that make you forget about air conditioning.
The location on Mai Khao Beach is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re far enough from Patong’s chaos that you can’t even hear it, but close enough to the airport that you’re not spending half your vacation in transit. The beach itself stretches for miles – I mean, I walked for forty minutes one morning and barely saw another soul. It’s also where the sea turtles come to nest between October and February, which the staff will tell you about without you even asking because they’re genuinely excited about it. The resort’s elephant camp initially made me skeptical (you know how these things can be), but they’ve actually partnered with a legitimate conservation program, and watching those gentle giants wade into the lagoon at sunset became my daily ritual. Service-wise, the staff has this uncanny ability to appear exactly when you need them and vanish when you don’t – I still don’t know how they managed to keep my coffee cup perpetually full during those long poolside reading sessions. The spa treatments in the traditional Thai sala overlooking the mangroves were honestly transformative, though I’d recommend booking early since they only have a few therapists and word gets around quickly among guests.

Conal from United Kingdom (10/10)
Hotel setting and surroundings are beautiful and the design/layout is very relaxing. The villa's are very well equipped and an oasis of calm if you just want to relax in your room.
Staff are incredibly attentive and helpful. Genuinely looking to improve your stay. We had an issue one morning caused by the hotel but the manager found us later on and apologised and sorted everything out, including some complimentary items – he completely defused the issue. The retention rates for staff is very high at the hotel and it's clear the staff enjoy working there.
Food was really very good. Three varied restaurants with very good food. The Treehouse (Japanese) was excellent, but book in advance.
The hotel may seem pricey at the outset but it's worth it. There is a reason why there are virtually no bad reviews.Beverley from United Kingdom (10/10)

Every bit was exceptional. The property itself was amazing with all amenities and luxury. The location is right beside the beach. They cater different cuisine experiences and the food was good. But most of all the staff were phenomenal. Great service. Special mention – Aziz, Dream, Kandy and Air were extremely hospitable and made sure we were well taken care of.

i was touched by the exceptional service. i have stayed in hundreds of hotels, and i never experienced in my life such outstanding service before Mai Khao’s Anantara. i was actually shocked by the lady working in the reception: her genuine consideration was palpable. she offered to call the airport and ask about our check in, which is so sweet of her considering we didn’t speak the language. she even asked if we would like to have a taxi booked for us in the morning, because they are hard to come by in such an early hour. AND she was more than happy to offer us a prepackaged breakfast since we were going to miss it. i doubt i will ever experience such a lovely host like her again. many, many hotels have got to learn how to bring back such service.
