Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of resorts in Thailand, but Anantara Layan Phuket Resort honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how some places look amazing in photos but then feel sort of sterile when you’re actually there? This isn’t one of those places. The moment you walk into the lobby – which is basically this gorgeous open-air pavilion that smells like frangipani and ocean salt – you get why this five-star property has such a stellar reputation.

What really sets this place apart is its location on Layan Beach, which I mean, most tourists have never even heard of. While everyone’s fighting for space at Patong or Kata, you’re here on this pristine stretch of white sand that feels almost private. The resort sits right where the beach curves, so you get these incredible sunset views that honestly make you understand why people write cheesy travel blogs. I spent most evenings just sitting on my villa’s terrace with a Chang beer, watching long-tail boats drift by – there’s something hypnotic about it. The villas themselves are ridiculous in the best way, with these massive bathrooms that have soaking tubs overlooking tropical gardens, and beds so comfortable I actually overslept three days in a row (which never happens to me).

The staff here gets the balance right between being attentive and giving you space to breathe. They remember your name after one conversation, but they’re not hovering around making you feel like you can’t relax. The infinity pool area can get busy around 2 PM when families with kids show up, but honestly, even then it’s pretty chill. If you want total quiet, the adults-only pool tucked behind the spa is where it’s at – I discovered it by accident on day three and basically claimed a daybed there for the rest of my stay. Food-wise, the beachfront restaurant does this amazing grilled seafood that’s actually fresh (you can see the fishing boats come in early morning), and their Thai curry is legit spicy, not the watered-down tourist version you get at most resort restaurants. One small thing – the WiFi in some villas can be spotty, which was actually kind of liberating, but if you’re traveling for work, just heads up. The location in Phuket means you’re about 20 minutes from the airport, which is perfect for those early morning flights, and there’s this little local market about ten minutes away where you can grab actual Thai street food if you want a break from resort dining. I left feeling like I’d actually been somewhere special, not just another pretty hotel.

  Very wonderful resort close to the airport far away from any traffic and city noise, pool villa was amazing, staff were helpful and kind. Very useful amenities were provided for my infant like shampoos, bathtub, sterilizer and bottle heater. The GYM was amazing alongside yoga and other activities. House keeping were on top of their job, they came to the villa twice a day without asking which was nice. Kids friendly resort with many activities for kids and kids corner in the breakfast buffet.
